Mask lay on the large boulder Regulus often used to call meetings, shaded by one of the few trees the plains boasted. One paw dangled casually over the edge as his glacial eyes scanned the horizon. This rock was one of the few vantage points that would allow him to see over top the long summer grasses, other than the wall but the boulder was more centrally located so suited his needs better. He wasn't looking for intruders, after all, but rather keeping an eye out for prey. He had it in mind that it would be wise for him to start preserving furs for the winter. There were few wolves who still seemed to be making their way around the pack lands, whether that was from wolves leaving the pack or being kicked out he didn't know and frankly it wasn't his business. He just knew the pack had fewer mouths to feed now, but also less wolves to do the feeding. Fewer jaws to hold the line if another pack tried to raid them. Most of the wolves in the pack even when it had been full had been healers or fighters, or both, but few hunters and even fewer after the raid. They were rather short of wolves with the expertise needed to carefully remove and preserve a pelt, which was unfortunate since they were used in so many different ways. Tanned hide and rawhide would be needed as well, but he doubted there would be enough hunters available to take down anything large enough to be worth that. Maybe he could drum up enough interest for a deer. But for now, small game was it, which meant furs. He wasn't an expert tanner by any means, but he knew enough to get by. No one in the pack would sleep in a cold den this winter if he could help it.
