The night comer paced the mouth of the gaping wound, his failing vision trying to peer into the darkness, looking for something he was only partially sure was there. He could hear the faint cadence of someone speaking, but when he raised his head to sniff, the air was cold and empty. With growing dissatisfaction he watched as a thin fog began to pool at his feet, flowing down the steep incline like water, beaconing him to enter and embrace the darkness. “Well, why not?” He said, his lips pulling back over his stained fangs in a sickeningly gleeful grin.
