Come down, come down sweet reverence

After making it safely across the frozen lake they rested for the night and as soon as the sun started to peak over the horizon Jynn was up and ready to go. She slipped away from the rocky crevice she'd made her den to find that it was snowing. Large flakes fell from a dusty blue sky that was just starting to turn a warm, peachy color as the sun neared the horizon. Looking out to the west she could see the slate blue ocean, the waves lapping over the deep, reddish brown rock. Out in the distance she could see another island that seemed to be made entirely of ice. Part of it glowed aqua when hit by the sun but it was quickly becoming covered in snow. To her right she noticed that it seemed steam was coming off of one of the pools of water near the ocean.

She was about to turn to speak to Aku when a column of hot water erupted from the largest pool to her left, catching the color of the sunlight as it shot into the sky. Jynn shrieked in surprise and stumbled back slipping on the ice behind her and landing in a tangle of legs.

Aku had spent the night curled up in the snow. He was accustomed to frigid temperatures so after wrapping his tail around his paws and face he'd fallen asleep with ease. The snow had built up over him during the night and when he finally woke up he'd risen from the drift like some strange winter ghost. His paws weren't in as bad of shape as he'd expected from the trek across the frozen field, so he was looking forward to the journey ahead. It seemed he would have Jynn as a travel partner for awhile longer and he was grateful for her company.

He too was near the geyser when it blew and it caught him completely off guard. Aku leaped back like a scalded cat, tumbled to the ground and then was on his feet facing the Spout in an instant. Seeing he wasn't under attack, he stood still with one paw raised in concern and regarded the tower of water. Unwilling to step forward, he stretched out his neck and sniffed. The air smelled of water and little else. As he watched the water began to die down. "Jynn?" he called without taking his eyes from the steaming column. He'd heard her shriek and knew she was nearby. "Are you alright?" If she needed him he would go to her, but he was reluctant to take his eyes from the strange phenomenon.

Jynn managed to quickly untangle herself and get back on all four feet facing the spout. At Aku's question she groaned. "Yea, just thing I may need a break from some of these surprises." She risked moving closer but she took care to stay at least a couple feet from the edge of the pool that had erupted. She could just make out that it wasn't some shallow pool of water but a deep, deep lake that went down farther than her eyes could see. Her large ears flicked forward as she listened for anything that might sound like a growl or breathing, any indication of something large living down in that pool. Though, to be honest, she couldn't imagine something living down there.

"The rocks where the water fell are warm. It must be really hot in that pool. I kind of thought sea dragons were just a myth but I may have to start re-evaluating."
