Halo hadn't been the most successful yet when it came to finding plants that would make good dyes in blue or purple. She didn't want to bother anyone within the Armada with her questions-- they were warriors, they had more important things to be doing. No, the tenderhearted girl would need to find something on her own. Was her pursuit trivial? Maybe. Still, it helped her keep things organized. Color coding was the easiest way to make sure that all of the pups' records were kept separate and labeled. Of the three primary colors, she had red figured out already. Yellow and blue would be next, and Halo figured blue would probably be the most difficult.

Though the tenderhearted creature would have preferred to use a plant based dye (something she could put in the ground and grow more of), maybe crushed up shells of mollusks would produce the right color? Halo was fairly sure she'd seen some in the ocean shallows when she'd come in. Sedna's mention of sharks still hung at the back of her mind, though. Going into the sea was too dangerous if there were such fierce predators. Still, there were the deltas near the Mangrove, those should be safer.

It was the farthest out she'd been since joining the Armada. Halo's raccoon friend was the last creature that she'd encountered with any trace of the disease, and she was hoping that things were starting to look up. It was morning when she set out, and mid morning by the time she arrived at the Kamui Delta. With careful paws, the girl approached the water. She could feel how the ground gave way beneath her feet, the mud a bit more sticky than she'd anticipated. No matter, Halo would simply take a bath before bed. Her gaze was keen as she began to dig in the shallows, watching the sand come up murky. It was brackish, and she was careful not to get it in her mouth. There had to be something under here somewhere.

With Theory out scouting around meeting alphas and conducting what Fable assumed was important leader things and her parents otherwise occupied as they helped with the pack's transition, she found herself set loose on the world with little direction. Which suited her just fine. There was plenty to explore, and she wanted to get a handle on what sorts of prey were still effected by the diseases that had ensnared the land. It seemed like woodland critters were getting along okay - she mostly found small animals who had already succumbed to their sicknesses. Their small, desiccated corpses - which she would have once raided for useful bones and furs - now only made her a little sad. The larger ones that had clearly been overtaken by the same strain of illness she'd had, mushrooms sprouting from their ribcages and now firmly affixed into the ground beneath them, made her break out in a cold sweat.

The spring sunshine was beating strong today, an encouraging sign of a hopefully normal summertime to come. Fable couldn't wait for the warmer weather. A little jaunt accompanied her step as she picked her way across the delta. She hummed quietly to herself, nosing through the water and trying to see if any small fish darting around had any remnants of illness. With her eyes almost completely trained on the water, Fable splashed her way across the delta and ran straight into Halo. "Oh! Sorry, sorry," she laughed, stumbling backwards to save them from knocking heads. "I was just checking out the little fish! Making sure they're doing okay," well, that sounded a bit strange, "You know, after the sickness that was all over." Fable gestured vaguely behind her at the whole of Boreas, as if anyone could forget about it. "I'm Fable!"

Rummaging about in the brackish water wasn't quite getting Halo what she wanted. She paused for a moment, letting the water settle just a bit. Halo dug her pale paws in deeper, grumbling softly. There was a great amount of exertion necessary as she moved the sludgy sand away. It didn't feel great under her paws. Too squishy, too... sticky. Much too sticky. Halo's eyes lit up when they fell on a vacant shell, pale sky blue in color. Okay, she was getting somewhere. Carefully, she pulled it from the muck, setting it to the side.

And back to digging she was. Well, at least she was until the-- oh! Before she could even think, she was apologizing too. "Sorry, sorry, sorry," Halo apologized, soft lavender eyes going wide. A yearling, and she was also apologizing. Halo's tail wagged softly. She was gentle, tail wagging as she re-oriented herself. The girl spoke of the fish, and the tenderhearted creature nodded. "That makes sense, does it seem like they're doing okay?" There was genuine interest from the healer. Fable, that was a nice name. "I'm Halo, it's nice to meet you." Right, gentle as always. Maybe today would be even better than she'd expected.

She stepped back a few steps, laughing in embarrassment. That was a close one. She could hear the echo of her father's voice in her head, reminding her to pay attention. Fable had a bit of a one-track mind when it came to tasks she was focusing on - but at least she hadn't completely mowed this other wolf down! She'd count that as a success. Water rippled at her legs as it leveled again after their scuffle in the shallows. "No, you're okay! We're both okay, I think. I didn't bonk you, right?" she asked, her eyes softening briefly with concern. "And yes, I think so... further up the coast, some of them were still washing up on shore with some of the growths. But I think this area is doing much better!" It seemed like the still water here in the Delta was allowing the water creatures to heal a bit more quickly. Fable had heard rumors that the sun seemed to alleviate symptoms - maybe without much of a current, the standing water allowed the sun to penetrate more deeply. "Hi, Halo!" Fable chirped. "What were you doing in the shallows? We were both looking straight down," she giggled.

Halo could relate to the infamous one track mind. Heck, that was what had nearly gotten her eaten by the panther on day one. Hyper focus kicked in sometimes, but that was okay. Halo liked to harness that focus and use it as best she could... just, sometimes it came at the expense of other things. "No, don't worry," Halo smiled. Fable hadn't bonked her, and they were good. Both in one piece, the girls could relax as they were. "I'm glad they're doing better. I hadn't even thought about how the sea creatures were handling things," it's maybe a bit sheepish, but the healer hadn't considered it. Then there were the thoughts of sharks, like Sedna had mentioned... what would become of a crystal infested shark? Halo would shudder to think.

Fable, she was called. She was friendly, and it put Halo's usually anxious mind at ease. What were you doing in the shallows? the question came, and the pale girl's tail wagged softly. "I was looking for empty shells like this one," she explained, reaching to grab the one she'd found. "See how the inner parts here are sorta blue?" The pale girl pointed it out carefully, showing Fable. "I want to grind them up to make blue dye. I keep growth records for the pups in my pack, and the easiest way to keep all of the information straight is when it's color coded," well, at least it was the easiest way for Halo. "I haven't found blue flowers to make dye from yet, so this is my solution for now." The blue flowers that she could think of didn't do well in the climate of the tall grass plains, at least as far as she knew. Still, it felt sorta nice to explain to someone else what she was up to these days.
