It was almost perfect. Almost. Jael swears to fuck, it's nearly done. She'd managed to secure some fencing overtop of the old pool, and it seemed to be holding the decoy birds in pretty well. They weren't the precious chickens yet-- just whatever had been dumb enough to walk into her trap on the island. Nothing pretty enough to justify holding to trade so... yeah, decoy birds. Something told her that there was still a big ass snake or two lurking around that just had to be lured out.
Right, so it was a twofold test. Lure the snake. Figure out if the fencing setup she'd managed to rig would hold a bird of relative-chicken size. Jael was rather proud of herself. She'd given herself a project. It was almost done, and almost functional. Right, something about the whole art of project completion really itched her brain in just the right way. Slipping through the double door of her bird cage, and back out again, all she needed to do was post up by the pool and wait. And watch. And wait more. Climbing up on the old lifeguard stand, Jael curled up, content to watch for predators from her perch.
As her keepers, Gilgamesh and Modesty may join any of Jael’s threads if they deem necessary.
The boy was bored, his mum was sleeping and Sakana had shooed him away, telling him to go get some fresh air. He coughed a little as he approached the pool where plenty had been going on for the last little while, inching closer to look at the contraption that covered what had once been a big hole in the ground and oh! There were birds in there? His tummy gave a little rumble and one of the decoys startled, flapping across the length of the enclosure but unable to get out.
The boy... was not terribly bright, and didn't quite realise that if something as small as a bird couldn't get out then that would logically mean, that he was too big to get in... His back end gave a tell-tale wiggle, his toes tip-tapping against the concrete as he tried to mentally measure the distance between them...
