In These Troubled Times

Her trip east had taken her to the old Threar lands. Now it led her to her Nephew’s borders, on Fiori. Her head tipped back in a soft song to her sister. She wanted to check in on Pip, and talk to her adopted sibling for a while. She knew Fiori was a neutral pack, so she wouldn’t ask them to aid her in clearing the Plains. It was nice to be free of the heat cycle, and she’d managed to keep her paws off of Falk for the whole season. But it made her wonder. What about Amalia and Athena? What had happened to their plans? Had they found a different brother to.. ehm.. donate?
Her haunches settled against the ground as her call ended and her muzzle lowered. She flicked her tail to wrap about her hips as she waited for Pip’s arrival. She wouldn’t ask for help, but she wanted someone to talk to. Perhaps fresh insight could be gained from her sister, who was older than herself.

It'd been nearly a season since she'd seen Surreal last. Compared to how things were before Fiori began, she was certainty seeing her a whole lot more now. Still, it felt very much like she couldn't see any of her family members that weren't part of Fiori nearly enough as she liked. As soon as she heard Surreal's call, she snapped quickly to attention, moving gracefully to all fours and making her way to the border. Surreal was welcome to come and go here as she pleased - she had no doubt Leo felt the same way, yet it seemed some customs weren't broken so easily. A smile painted her aging features as she approached her, closing the distance between them gladly to move to embrace her. "I'm glad to see you again so soon," she greeted her warmly. "All the way from Vericona Plains." Oblivious as to what had happened there, or where Surreal was living, she offered a gleeful smile and a generous flick of her tail as she awaited her adoptive sister's response. |

Surreal didn’t have long to wait for her sister’s arrival. As Epiphron moved to embrace her, Surreal leaned into the touch, one paw lifting to seek a hugging hold over her sister’s neck briefly before settling back to earth. Her sister’s words brought a small smile to Surreal’s muzzle, until the Plains were mentioned. Had Pip not heard? A soft sigh drifted from her jaws, her ears flicking back with discontent. “Yeah, about that… The Plains have been claimed. By Hellstrom. Sin Armada, or Hellstrom, or whatever he calls himself. We had to vacate to the Estuary.” Her tone made it unnecessary to voice the word ‘again’. A growl bubbled in her throat as she thought of Falk, and his discomfort in traversing the Estuary, and of Threar’s fate. Had the children been found and led to safety?
“I’m sure you’ve heard of Threar being challenged for; they were your neighbors, after all.” Her mismatched eyes sought the bright blue gaze of her sister, before a dry smile tugged at her lips. “I think Sin will regret his decisions very soon. Abaven might be attacking them. And I want to be right alongside them when it happens. And if I can’t help with the fighting… Well, I can help guard the wounded, or Abaven itself while they’re fighting.” She shrugged. Either way, she had little doubt that Hellstrom would rue the day it had been born. All because its leader chose to challenge for a pack that was peaceful, and had never harmed anyone.

Things would never be as they had once been; she still found herself longing for the childhood she had spent with Erani, living in Vericona Plains with Chrysanthe and Syrinx and even Preston and Neo. It was funny though, the way that time altered memories - it felt like she had lived there far longer than she had, felt like she'd spent so many years in Alacritia before marrying Maverick when it had hardly been a pawful of seasons at best. When they finally broke their embrace, her sister began to speak. Epiphron listened as Surreal quickly explained that the Plains had been claimed. By an Armada, no less, but not one she was familiar with. The idea was distressing, and her brows would pull together in concern, and she felt her lips twitching slightly as though threatening to turn into a snarl. "Never heard of him," she'd utter quietly, shaking her head. She'd once felt hate toward all with the Armada name.. but she'd met a decent one, and her views had changed as she had gotten to know Athena. But the name still sent a pit of discomfort to her stomach, especially upon hearing Surreal's tone as she spoke of this. "And I'd assume as much about Threar, but I haven't been terribly involved in politics as of late." And she certainly didn't want to get involved in this.. this war that Surreal seemed to be hinting at. But she would not in understanding nonetheless. "Glad I have nothing to do with him, or Abaven." Not that she had anything bad to say about them, but the last thing she wanted was to feel obligated to help another pack in need. Perhaps it was a selfish thought, but she had never been particularly altruistic at the core; the idea of sending her children and the rest of Fiori to war was far from pleasant. "And I do hope you keep yourself out of harm's way, even if you decide to help. That can just as easily make you an enemy too," she would muse gently, intending to offer whatever helpful advice she could. |
