With every breath
Her face was on fire, the attempt she had made at patching up her shoulder was less than ideal, and these goddamn bugs wouldn't just leave her the hell alone. Salt water, she thought to herself, would at least be a start. Sure it was going to scar horribly without proper treatment and suturing, but chicks dig scars right? At least she could hope.
It was with this in mind that she had followed her nose, down to the black stone beach. What should have only taken a few short hours took all the daylight that was afforded to them at the moment. She wasn't sure how keen she was on swimming in the dark, just in case there were sharks or something, but it needed to be done, and maybe it would give her some respite from the bloody fireflies.
As she waded out into the water, a glowing stream spread out in the water behind her. It made her skin crawl, the fat, frozen moon overhead, the strange glow of the bugs warping all perception of depth and time and now the ocean itself lighting up. Maybe this wasn't such a good idea after all? Throwing caution to the wind, the girl dropped to her stomach, head barely remaining above the surface, and she even submerged that. The water was icy with a deep winter chill and this alone might kill her, but freezing had to be better than going out from an infection, right?
"speech".
Hattori stepped closer, making a point to stay out of reach of the waves.
"I would not go any deeper. The currents are unpredictable." Which was to say if she got swept out and brought close to Black Island's shores she would either be torn apart by the jagged reef or drown. Neither fate seemed pleasant.
The yearling girl started when a voice called out from behind her and now her wounds were clean she had no reason to continue to freeze her tail off. She removed herself from the water, keeping a respectful distance away before she shook herself off. Not like she needed to be pissing off someone who already had her on the back foot after all.
Her head dipped respectfully, mismatched eyes giving the man a sidelong look, but never letting her eyes linger on him long enough to be outright staring. It wasn’t as if there wasn’t plenty else to keep her eyes busy, the glowing water that seemed to be settling now she had removed herself from it, the frozen streaks in the sky overhead. "If I could have avoided it, I wouldn’t have even gone that deep!" She responded with a lacklustre smile, attempting to sound chipper but falling utterly flat as a cold wind whipped down the beach and straight into her bones. Now she was out in the open, the gash in her shoulder and the slashes across her muzzle would be evident, the angry red raised edges giving away that they would certainly scar now, even if she kept the infection under control.
"I’m really sorry, am I trespassing?"She angled her body to move away if he was here to shoo her along. She didn’t mean or want to step on anyone’s toes.
