Jasper lay panting and exhausted, enjoying what meager shade she could beneath an overhanging slab of stone. She rather liked this red, rocky place.

The views from atop sandstone bluffs, looking out over the canyonlands, were breathtaking in a way she would struggle to translate into words... If there was anyone else she might speak of it to in the first place. Each morning dawned crisp and cool until the sun rose high enough for its warmth to be felt beneath her paws, bringing small lizards skittering out from their hidey-holes.

Chasing after them filled the young shewolf with a bubbling, pup-like enthusiasm, so while she would defend the sport as definitely, for sure hunting, in truth snapping them up afterward was more or less an afterthought.

Too bad she wasn't planning on lingering here much longer. Turns out lizards weren't terribly filling, and acquiring them always left her panting and worn out by the time she called it quits, as she was right then. The desert hares were too quick for her tastes, and whatever was left must surely fall victim to the coyote bands that caterwauled their claim over the place each night, tending to their own pups by the sound of things.

Perhaps Jasper would seek out somewhere more verdant tomorrow, or turn northward towards the mountains even, but for right now she could allow herself one more day of exploration... Just as soon as she caught her breath.

Thea wasn’t quite sure how she felt about her new environment just yet. She felt it was rather…bland, a simple canyon painted in earthly reds, browns and yellows. It did have a nice sunrise, and the mornings weren’t too horrible, but there was practically no shade to speak off and, thus, she felt herself panting as the sun bore down on her. The woman could feel her delicate pink nose burning ever so slightly and she frowned, rubbing at it with a wince. Her weasel, Bijou, chittered at her shoulder and Minou, her lynx, trailed along at her heels, yawning lazily.

The woman’s golden eyes looked around for a smidgen of shade and found it off in the distance. But, as she got closer, she realized she wasn’t the only one to have found the hidden treasure. It was another woman, similar in stature to Thea, with a coat that blended in startlingly well with their surroundings. In fact, the only thing that kept her from disappearing almost entirely was the bring, almost hypnotic blue eyes that peered out from the small bit of shade.

Thea’s tail wagged good naturedly behind her frame as she made a beeline for the newfound company. “Ma cherie, I had zought zat zee weather was warm because of our environment, but I see zat it was because of you,” she called with a bright smile that crinkled her gold dust eyes at the corners. “Do you mind if I share zee shade with you?” she asked, head tilting curiously to the side hoping she’d say yes. All flirting aside, it really was quite warm.
