Another Morning, Another Day Gone By

Álarr eased himself down along the river bank, simply watching the water wind on its way. The sun was just rising above the horizon, casting its pale light across the river and surrounding lands. Álarr flopped down next to a large trunk of driftwood to watch the sunrise. Afi curled up at his side to continue his cat nap while Brynhildr fiddled about with some sweet grass. Using her beak and talons she wove the blades together in a long braid. For now he had the morning to himself. He knew he should probably head back to Fireside again. He'd been flitting to and fro between his pack and the river but more and more he wished to simply stay around here. He enjoyed spending time with his newest family members and there was something freeing about not needing to fret over borders and pack duties.

The sun’s rays cut across the sky, painting the heavens with magnificent colors. The bite of winter has settled over the land and, despite the cloudless sky, it promises to be a cold day. Kore picks his way down toward the water, taking it slowly as the grogginess of sleep still tugs at his mind. A yawn erupts from his mouth and he blinks sleepily at the path before him, wondering if this is such a good idea. Kal had raced down this way the moment he had awoken and the galaxy-hued boy had begrudgingly left the warmth of his bed to follow his accident prone brother. The river bank comes into view and he spies the familiar form of his uncle. A smile pulls his lips up as the pup makes his way toward Álarr, giving a short bark of greeting. Once he is close enough, Kore says, “Morning uncle. What brings you here so early?” Another yawn pulls his mouth apart and the pup gives his uncle a sheepish grin once it has passed.

Álarr shifted slightly as Afi's little paws pushed at his side. The old cat had been out all night catching barn mice and would likely sleep for most of the day. His ears twitched and Álarr looked back toward the den site to see Kore wandering down toward the river. The boy greeted him and he returned a gentle smile. "Good morning, Kore, I could ask the same of you," Álarr replied, brows raised. He hadn't expected any of the pups to be up so early. Then again, they were growing rapidly. Maybe this was to be expected.
"I just wanted to enjoy the sunrise and get a bit of fresh air. Did you sleep well?" He reached out a paw and patted the ground next to him, offering a spot for Kore to sit and join him.
