the beach of wonders

Nighttime was beginning to fall. Rays of brilliant sunshine peeked in from the entrance of their den. Already, they were being ushered to curl up and fall asleep. Except, he didn't want to. From his vantage point, he had seen how mesmerizing the beach was after the sun went down. He needed to investigate it but knew his parents wouldn't let him willingly go out alone yet. Biding his time as he pretended to fall asleep, it wasn't long before he opened his one yellow eye to glance around. Sound asleep was his family when Scald slipped out from beneath a sibling. Tender were his steps as he tiptoed outside onto the midnight sand. As soon as his bi-colored eyes caught sight of the dazzling spectacle before him, he was struck speechless. High above him, a full moon emblazoned the sky without a cloud in sight. Millions of stars twinkled in an array around it, making the night almost as bright as the day. Releasing the breath he didn't know he was holding, the boy looked down to the sand. Everywhere he looked, it glittered! "Whoa," he whispered as he continued to explore the beach laid out before him. |

It was the shuffling of a sibling moving against her that had her awake. Deluge seemed to find her mothers feet more than her siblings when it came to moving around the quickly cramping quarters so she slept lightly with her family and best out in the open. The movement as she trailed her brother seemed to wake whatever it was that gave her coat its ethereal glow, and she only managed to catch the edge of his whoa before she decided to drag her nails through the crunchy black sand to give her presence away. “Y’know sometimes the water glows like I do?” she asked her brother, not waiting for an answer before loping forward to splash in the frigid shallows.
Due to distance kept from her Raider kin and her regular travelling taking her out of pack lands, Deluge smells and acts like a loner. The only noticeable scent other than her own is Dread who may join any of her threads at any time.

While the beach glittered and glowed around him, he was soon distracted by the twinkling above. Standing there on the shore as chilly waters lapped at his toes, he lifted his chin to stare at the stars. With no bonfires lit upon the beach that night, he could see millions upon millions of tiny dots overhead. The word star was still unknown to the lanky boy, but he found them fascinating anyway. Tilting his head back and forth as he tried to see the different shapes the stars could make if he connected the dots, he was soon distracted by the scraping sound of his sister's approach. Blinking a few times as he looked at her, he raised a brow. He would have asked about her glowing phenomena if she hadn't bounced herself into the frigid waters. With a roll of his eyes, Scald let out a huff of air. "Girls," he growled under his breath as he watched the waters shift and change before his eyes just like his own sister. But she was always trying to get her coat to glow so that wasn't anything new. "Deluge, what are those things in the sky?" Scald asked, purposefully ignoring her own fascination with her glowing mutation. |

The young girl was distracted from her splishy-splashing by her brother’s quiet voice crossing the beach. She took just another moment to drop to her elbows and quickly roll in the shallow water before making her way back to the black sand and taking a seat beside him, turning her own golden eyes to the sky. "Hmm, I dunno, but if you go to the other side of the beach, they look a bit different. I’m pretty sure they move too. But not very fast." She canted her head to the side trying to grasp the importance of what she had just said. "Maybe, it doesn’t matter what they are, as long as they can help us get to where we need to be?" The girl took another moment to look at the sky. “We should give’em names so we can always find our way back home.”

From the corner of his eye, he saw her coat illuminate as soon as she rolled in the water. As much as he wanted to ask her about how that all worked, he was more interested in the twinkling balls of light in the sky. "Ya noticed that too?" Scald asked as he sat on his own haunches down on the obsidian sand beside his sister. Tilting his chin up to the sky, he glanced from the northern to the southern sides of the horizon. "Huh, they do look like they might move," his quiet tones are curious as he squinted to maybe get a better look at them. "We can really use them to get home? You think that's true?" Scald asked with a raise of his brow as he lifted a paw to point to a particularly larger blob. "What about that one? What should we name it? Ya think we can see that from an'where?" The boy asked his sister. |
