I Won't Take The Easy Road [Kore]

Come down, come down sweet reverence
Jynn busied herself with getting supplies for the upcoming trek into Auster. Her jaguar companions were off hunting, leaving her and Tahmores to look for basic healing herbs. She wasn't sure yet during what season they'd start the expedition but marigold would be useful for tending to bug bites and sun burns. She was pretty sure it would help against infection but Tahmores hadn't been able to confirm and she had only the most basic of healer's knowledge. Still it would be worth having aboard. If she could get someone to join her expedition with healing knowledge that would be a plus. Jynn padded over to some bright orange flowers and she swiftly started sniffing around them. Oh yea, that was marigold for sure. A pretty flower but not the best smelling one, that was for sure.

Spring is finally in full-swing and the flowers are in bloom in Fern Gulley. Kore moves through the frequent flowers but barely seems to notice the word around him. These days, he feels like he is hardly alive and barely clings to existence as he moves from land to land in search of his missing sibling. Time passes but he does not notice it as the man cloaked in galaxies moves like a wraith through the living world.
When his body is hungry, he feeds and when he is thirsty, he waters it, but beyond that, he hardly notices himself. Kore’s pads are now covered with thick calluses and his coat is losing its brilliant sheen but again he does not see it… or care. His muscles are toned and he is lean but, Kore is tired. It is not just from all the physical exertion but from the emotional toll of wandering in search of his brother and finding little to no signs of him.
Exhaustion is his constant companion these days as hopelessness begins to settle on his shoulders like a heavy, suffocating blanket. Dull eyes scan the land without seeing the beauty around him. Kore is so detached from reality that, as steps toward some marigolds, he does not see the maned wolf that is working to remove some. It isn’t until he is almost on top of her that he realizes there is someone else here.
Paws pull him backward so that he does not slam into her and he blinks several times as he tries to get his muddled brain to work. Ears slick back in embarrassment as he dips his head in apology and says, “Sorry. Wasn’t paying attention.” The words are a murmur and, as Kore finally stops, he feels the pull of exhaustion he has been ignoring. When was the last time he had slept? Yesterday? The day before? Time is foreign concept to the man locked in worry and fear.

Jynn turned her head and started using her teeth to snip off the marigolds. She needed to get a proper pack to store this stuff in. She made note to go sniffing around some of the old human archeological sites and seeing if she could find something useful. Otherwise maybe she should find a crafter and trade some items for a proper, well-made pack.
Her large ears picked up movement and she lifted her head to see a handsome, but weary looking young man approach her. One of her ears flicked back questioningly as he didn't seem to even notice her. He didn't seem threatening but she took a few steps back as he was almost on top of her before suddenly stoping. "Oh, that's alright. You seemed to be lost in your thoughts. Are you ok? Do you need any help finding your way?" While Jynn had a tendency to get herself turned around from time to time she was an accomplished navigator and knew roughly where territories were located relative to each other.

Kore almost ran into the maned wolf and the young man feels greatly embarrassed that he hadn’t even registered that there was another wolf present. Blue eyes move to the catch the leggy woman’s violet gaze and he offers a small smile as she speaks. Dipping his head in quiet thanks and the galaxy-clad man lifts his head to turn his gaze to the surrounding area while he racks his exhausted mind for answers. Mind wars with itself as he wonders if he should tell her about Kal’s disappearance. Being a loner his whole life, the man has always had the tendency to want to do everything himself and decline any offer of an outsider’s help.
However, it has been months (or was it years?) since his brother Kalyke has gone missing and he has found little to no sign of him. Disheartened and verging on the edge of losing all hope, Kore begrudgingly decides that it is time to ask for some help. Folding his haunches, the man expels a sigh as he allows his weary limbs a chance to rest. Eyes blink slowly before he meets the stranger’s gaze once more and he slowly explains, “My name is Kore. I have… been looking for my brother. He went missing right before I turned one. I have been searching for him for the past year and I keep finding small clues but… nothing major.”
As he tells the story, the man feels the despite loneliness and heart wrenching worry he has carried for Kal for the past year welling up to an almost unbearable point. The lines around Kore’s eyes crinkle as desperation colors his gaze as the man wildly begins to hope that she can help him.
