Mortis needed a breath of fresh air after spending a few weeks in the Armada. Reconciling the home he knew with this rugged mountain pack was difficult. He missed home when he was away, and then he felt suffocated when he was back. He just wished it would make sense.
It was late by the time he made it to the little Valley on the outskirts of the desert. The sky was awash in shadows, and the first hint of starlight began to peek its way around the dying light. He approached the burbling stream on quiet paws, spreading his wings around him like a coat as he stopped at the edge. He could just make out the outline of his reflection. Hints of dark blues, and faint glowing tones of white. Lately, what felt like the face of a stranger.
He reached a paw forward, stirring the water with the tip of a toe, blurring the image. He let out a soft sigh and leaned back on his hunches. Content to while away the evening, far from the responsibilities that plagued him.

Rivers were something Keahilani loved, with her whole being. Being around the water, in the water. It was always a comfort, particularly after the fire. She couldn’t remember all of it, but she had vivid memories of playing in the streams near their home, splashing around and trying to bite at the water. This was why, when she heard the sound of rushing water, she found herself drawn towards it. The young wolf didn’t mean to intrude upon another’s moment of silence, of isolation. She hadn’t expected to run into another so late in the day, the evening rearing it’s cooler head. She took an inhale of breath as she rounded a corner, departing the trees only to spot a figure sitting at the edge of the water. Oh no, she didn’t want to upset them. But… there was something strange. Eyes widened, as she studied the figure for a moment, clearing her throat. Did they… have something on their back? Were those wings? She had never seen such a thing on a wolf before, and she hoped it would be alright to have a conversation. Not about just the wings of course, but if they were from these lands, surely they could speak to her! Let her know of any kingdoms in the area! “Pardon me,” she spoke softly, staying far enough back for both her comfort and theirs, only moving closer if they indicated that they were alright with her doing so. She wasn’t looking for trouble, so she didn’t want to make another wolf upset at her. Plus, this stranger was so tall, she had to look upwards to even study their face. “My name is Keahilani. Are you from these lands?” Talk. Think. Walk. |
