looking for trouble
grimoire

In her task to train and learn more about the status of all the warriors within the Armada, Hazel had found something else. There was still one among them that was undeclared. She couldn't say that she'd ever spoken to him, only catching glimpses of the man in passing. Grimoire. A tall, dense boy with horns that grew from his head. If nothing else, he looked like he should be a capable fighter. If he could be trained, then she may as well see where he was at as well. Considering for a moment, she climbed down from the treehouse and peered out into the forest around her. A good day for a patrol-- a good day to go looking for trouble. There had to be a predator out here somewhere, especially as winter melted into spring.
With a certain optimism to her tone, Hazel called out for Grimoire. Maybe she could see what he wanted out of life in the Armada along the way, too. Maybe she'd find out if he even... knew what he wanted. There was plenty of forest and a long walk ahead of them.

He was returning from beyond the Armada lands. For weeks now he had been back and forth. Searching for...something. Though he had really no idea what exactly he was searching for. Something just kept feeling like it was missing, and the hermit Ancora was growing frustrated that he didn't know what it was. He'd been in the same rank since he joined. Nobody had really approached him to address it, but it was also partially his fault, too. He just...didn't know. As he approached Armada territories and was on his way back to his den to just...well...same as usual, he supposed. Someone called for him. The voice was completely unfamiliar. He had absolutely no idea who it was. He had seen the others in passing but had never really spoken to anyone beyond Sirius and Azure, and even those short conversations were brief. He was curious but also hesitant. Was he in trouble for something? Had someone noticed his constant absence? Instead of fixating on that, he slipped on his facade of indifference and made his way toward the woods. And it wasn't long before he found someone he vaguely recognized, but didn't know her name. Honestly, all their faces were just kind of a blur..."Are you the one that called me?" |

Hazel didn't actually know what she was expecting, when it came to Grimoire. He must have joined the pack while she'd been unwell, and since that point she'd been pretty busy with the pups and the whole trying to become something thing. She was certain she'd seen his face just... they hadn't spoken. Hell, who had she really spoken with, other than Bas and Halo? Maybe this assignment from the Warlord would be good for her, in more ways than one.
"Yeah," shit, she should be more friendly than that. "I'm Hazel, of the Lieutenants." She arranged her expression into something that could at least pass as friendly. Hazel wasn't all that great at this, at least when it came to trying to figure out her packmates that were her own age. Why was this easier with the pups, the yearlings? Shit.
"I was reviewing the ranks to see who needed more training, and I noticed that you haven't declared any sort of interest." She'd cut right to the chase, it would probably be less painful for both of them. "Is there a reason? Can I help?"

Hazel... The name didn't ring a bell, and neither did her face, of course. But at least now he had a name, face, and rank to put with it all. "Grimoire..." It didn't take her more than a matter of moments to cut straight to the root of the matter. His ears fell back in embarrassment. Or maybe he was feeling something else. Something he couldn't quite name. It wasn't shame. It wasn't anything like that. Maybe his lack of ambition? Maybe he'd just felt like his presence around here had just been cast to the wayside. He had raised himself as a hermit since his parents died when he was young. And he supposed he had carried that even into this life in a pack. He didn't know how to integrate himself into this, despite being here a while now. She asked if there was a reason for it and if she could help. He looked away, embarrassed now for sure. How could he explain to her that he didn't know what he was doing or how to live with a pack? He struggled daily to figure it out, and in the end, the stress was too much that he just ended up secluding himself in his little part of the caves. "I...er...I don't know...I guess I just struggle to figure things out with a pack. But...I also don't want to be a hermit forever, either." There were so many wolves in the Armada, he didn't want to feel like he was imposing or that they had more important things to attend to. He did his duties and went back to his room. Or left to hunt or something. "I've been trying to better my skills. But...I dunno, I haven't wanted to bother anyone, either. So I'm just...doing my best, I guess." |

His posture shifted, and he seemed uncomfortable. Hazel could understand that, but maybe it was important to learn how to talk about the uncomfortable things. Quietly, she listens to him talk about being a hermit. Talk about struggling. Talk about bothering anyone... wait, she could relate to the last one. She considered for a long moment as he spoke, finally nodding. It was more to herself than anyone else, but she supposed she understood. Well, she understood in the way that she knew how. Hazel had grown up here, but she'd grown up a pup that had more or less been dropped on the Armada's doorstep.
"What do you enjoy doing?" The question comes, and she'll give him time to think on it. If there was something he preferred, then it would be easy enough to encourage him on that path, right? Hazel certainly thought so. Not wanting to force a decision out of the man, but she wants to help. Hazel's interactions come in earnest, she could promise that much. "Hey, you're never bothering anyone. This is a pack, we're here to support each other help each other. If we didn't, then we'd be no better together than we are alone." She explains, green eyes sitting on the larger man in earnest. It had taken her some time to learn that, too. Maybe Hazel could help him understand.
