Maki pushed herself up onto her rump. This hill was kind of tall, her legs had gotten kinda tired climbing all the way up. If she were to jump would she fly?

Aji acted like she just simply didn't care about anything around her, but truth was, she did. To some extent, anyways, but simply put, she filtered out what she felt was unimportant in an effort to focus on the things that mattered. For the most part, Aji didn't pay much mind to the luscious valley; the way the birds flittered overhead, the prey animals migrated through the rich green basin, the sun that made its way over the hilly crests with its golden rays and then slumbered to give way to the silver moon. Days passed by, weeks even. But she still didn't really live in the moment, to pause and reflect; she mostly pent the time carrying her short little sister around as they attempted to gather herbs and explore their identification, species, and uses. It was a growing passion for her, something that made her chest flutter a little as she absorbed as much information as she could. But today, little Delphi was back at the den with the rest of their siblings, and Aji took it upon herself to explore the valley without having tunnel vision on herbs and herbs only. Her limbs, oddly slender despite the puppy fat and downy fur surrounding her form, swished through the tall grasses as she took her time to meander onto the crest of the hill. Orange eyes casted themselves onto her half-sister who happened to be there, and she seemed to be enjoying the view, as well. She wasn't really expecting someone to be here, but given that she was family, she supposed it was only polite and sisterly of her to interact or something. Hey, Maki," She greeted, but her expression remained blank and her voice was monotonous. She wasn't very expressive, that much was clear. Did her siblings enjoy just..sitting on hills and staring at the view? She supposed she could try it herself. "What're you doing up here?" |

Maki was always happy to spend time with her siblings, full-blooded or not they were all family. She turned where she sat, ears standing to attention at the monotonous sound of Aji's voice, she always sounded so serious and Maki thought that made her very cool and mature. Like she had some very important things to do and yet she still took the time to visit her.
"Aji!" She chirped, voice as sweet as a songbird. "Was looking at the sky, thinking about flying. Do you think I could?" It was very important that she find out, she wanted to know it felt and embrace the feeling of freedom that surely came with it!

Maki perked up immediately upon seeing her, voice all cheery and pure honey. Almost a little too sweet for Aji’s taste, the way her tones lilted and sang. The brown mottled girl listened as her half-sister mentioned something about flying. She raised a brow quizzically at the idea. She was an odd child herself, only invested in exploring herbs and playing chaeuffer to short-legged Delphi. It really didn’t leave much room in her head for something as abstract as imagination, though to say she had none wouldn’t be very accurate, either. She just didn’t really consider such things as flying. "You don’t have wings, Maki," Aji stated matter of factly, expression unwavering and scanning her half and half form as if checking for any semblance of feathered appendages. Nope, nothing. She would break her legs trying to fly, not that she needed to explain that to her. She was a wolf, not a bird, for crying out loud. "So how do you think you’ll get off the ground?" |

Maki blinked. She'd already realised she didn't have wings, or at least they hadn't grown in yet. But did she even really need them to fly? It seemed so easy in her mind, she could picture it as clear as day, it felt like it could be as real as the grass beneath their paws. Her lips twisted, ears flicking to the sides a little as she seriously considered her sister's words, thinking it through like it was a feasible problem to be solved.
"The dragons in Daddy's stories fly without wings, why can't I?" She posed back, wholly believing that said dragons were true and real.

Aji simply tilted her head as Maki seemed steadfastly determined in believing she could fly. Well, she wasn't one to burst bubbles and tell her they weren't real; but at the same time, part of her worried for her more..impulsive siblings. Case in point, the ones that thought a bit of imagination and willpower would let them sprout wings. She could only hope foolishness didn't follow. But believing in fairy tales was a childhood facet, and Aji wasn't without her own streak of whimsy, either. So, she tossed aside the urge to say 'dragons aren't real, and you can't fly', and instead opted to skirt around that. Y'know, let her enjoy their father's stories without the impending doom of reality. "Well, dragons are..dragons. They have wings because they're meant to fly and breathe fire; we, as wolves, don't. But we can do other cool stuff, like. I dunno. Hunting and fighting and running?" She shrugged, trying not to burst her bubble. Wolves didn't need to fly - the world was at their feet, after all, far beyond the reaches of what they knew so far. |
