Last of the Best

It was time that she spoke with her sibling. She and Surreal were special - part of Erani's first and last litter - and it would seem that they were the only ones left of it as well. Surreal was so much different than Lyric herself, she seemed so much stronger, her fiery spirit earning her the title of Beta beneath her mother. Would Erani ever look to her to fill out a rank like that? To trust her with her beloved pack should anything ever happen to her? The woman would wonder without a hint of hostility toward her older sibling, jealousy wasn't something she thought to feel toward Surreal. She had been by Erani's side since the beginning, while Lyric, although for good reason, had left. There was a lot that she had to make up for, but was perfectly willing to try and do so, she only wanted to know what it would take to get there.
Humming as she wandered the pack, trailing after her sibling's unmistakable scent, she would realize that Surreal had wandered to wolf paw lake for some reason. Perhaps she was escaping the summer heat - not a bad idea considering the end of the summer was perhaps the most blistering. Any relief or signs prey would be found near water or in the shade - even the plains were starting to look a bit dingy in the summer heat.
When she seemed to be nearing the other she would slow down until her gait came to a complete halt - and she would gently bark, asking whether her sibling was busy. She hoped that she wasn't - she would really enjoy her company.

Surreal had just finished her patrol when she heard a familiar voice, humming. A wide smile pulled at her muzzle, but she didn?t run to meet her sister right off the bat. Instead, she meandered through the territory, just far enough ahead that her sister would be unable to hear her or see her, but close enough that the wind carried her sister?s sweet voice to her ears. Eventually, she reached the lake, and there she slid into the water like a snake, slinking toward a boulder out from the shore. Silently, she submerged, delighting in the cool water soaking her coat, until she was, quite literally, up to her ears in the water. From here, she could see when Lyric came out of the tree line. Her tail began to wag, well under the water, as her muscles quivered. It had been so long since she had let loose and played. Lyric stopped, actually much closer than she might have thought, a mere four feet from Surreal?s hiding spot. Surreal could hold herself back no longer. ?BWAAARGH!? With an upheaval and heavy slosh of flying water, the drenched silver timber female burst from the water, giving an almighty ?rawr? as she pounced toward her little sister. |

Strange - she had followed Surreal this far - but it seemed like her sister wasn't here. The youngest of their litter would stand, somewhat confused at the edge of the lake, her head tilted as she didn't really understand where her sibling could have gone so quickly... "She was just here..." The eta would ponder out loud, confusion evident in her gentle tones. Not a moment after her statement she would end up shrieking as someone came out of the water - her immediate reaction to turn to run from whatever was ambushing her. Yet after her scream wide eyes would take in the drenched grey and white creature - before she burst into laughter after being pounced on. "Surreal!" She would say loudly between laughter wiggling to try and get out of her sibling's grasp so that she could pounce on the other and even out the odds of their impromptu game. By this time Lyric's fur was wet just from being near the dripping wet lupine - but with the warm summer weather she didn't really mind - it would dry pretty quickly.

Lyrics reaction was perfect. She?d always been great for pranks like this. She never got offended by them, and took them with a laugh. Surreal?s drenched tail waved, sending ribbons of water flying as her saturated fur poured water back into the lake. Playfully, she would snake her jaws toward Lyric?s ear, intending to tug on it, just as they would have as pups. It as so good to see her again, Surreal just couldn?t help the natural mischievous side of herself surfacing. Lyric squirmed out of her grasp, and Surreal slapped the water with her front paws as Lyric pounced toward her, laughter flowing freely from her panting maw as she tried to splash her sister. |
