She was so cold; no matter how much moss was piled around her she couldn?t stop the shivering. Curling in around herself she waited in the darkness, as days drifted by in agonising slowness. Was she never going to be better again? Was this what the rest of her life was going to be like? Her heart ached for her siblings, for Val and Bass and Fuzzykins, for her adventures and the fun she had had before winding up stuck in this den. She was bored out of her mind and felt nothing but miserable. The little pile of shivering mass was nothing to the energetic bundle of life she had been before the sickness, and she wanted now nothing more than for this to be over. She could only imagine all the fun things Signy was finding out there and knew it would be so hard to catch up with her sister now. She sighed heavily into the cool floor and shivered some more.

She was hardly ever hungry these days, but didn?t think that mattered, it was not like she could spend the days out there burning energy. All the same her little belly of puppy fat had quickly faded, and a skinny sheen to her coat was beginning to show. She sighed again and began fiddling with a stick that lay on the floor. She pushed it to and fro with her paws until she was too tired to do much more. She scrunched up her face in displeasure and let out a moody sigh Mommy?? she called out softly, knowing her mother was never far away.

Poor Emer remained in a constant state of fear for her daughter and a state of longing for Taddeo and Signy. Fearful that they too could catch the illness, she had left them in Valerius' care whilst she tried her best to comfort Cecily and do what she could for the poor girl. The healers it seemed still had little idea about this illness, the did not know what it was and most upsetting for the entire pack had no clue as to what might cure it. Others were ill too though stuck by her daughter's side she knew little of how they were doing in comparison to Cecily.

She was just outside the den at that moment, visits from Valerius and healers were far from rare these days and she spent much of her time when Cecily was dozing looking out for their arrival. She prayed each time that there would be good news though the only things joyful were that Taddeo, Signy and Valerius were still ok and that the rest of the sick continued to fight this mystery illness. If there was ever to be the grave news that one of them had died, Emer honestly didn't know what she would do other than fear her daughter's life could be next.

She was certainly proving to be a tough little one though, she was weak but the only thing she ever seemed to feel down about was the fact she couldn't go out and play with her siblings. That innocent mind-set always managed to cheer Emer up slightly, fill her with the confidence that Cecily would get better. She had to.

At the girl's call Emer would twist her head to peer back inside the den, it seemed her little fighter had awoken. "I'm here." She called back softly as she rose to head back to Cecily's side.

Her mother was always but a soft call away and her presence was an instant soothe to the girls heart and mind. She had no doubt that her mother was the best in the whole wide world. The stick lay abandoned at her paws and she tucked herself into her mothers warm side. Not once had she feared her mother would catch the illness, after all Emer was eternal and invisible, wasn't she?

She supposed the beat part to the illness was having her mother almost entirely to herself, normally the woman was court between chasing after her and signy and checking in on Taddeo. It was almost a game between the green-eyed pair as they ran their poor mother raggid. She gave another soft moan of pure boredom as she shuffled more comfortabley into her mothers warmth. "Can you tell me a story mommy?" She asked, closing her eyes in anticipation at being court up in a world far away where people didn't get stuck in dens for days on ends feeling miserable because of some stupid sickness.

The title, although incredibly sweet was certainly nothing that Emer herself would ever claim. There were surely plenty of mothers that coped far better than she did, her own she would definitely include in that statement. Even if Cecily was the make such a comment out loud though, at least in this moment anyway, Emer probably would never have the heart to try deny such a claim, how could you respond with anything but love at such a thought anyway?

It was a thought that crossed her mind time and time again but Emer found that she honestly did not know what she would do if it wasn't for Valerius. The man had certainly helped her with this task of being a parent, like now for instance, he continued to keep an eye on two of her little handfuls whilst Emer spent her time worried over Cecily. She of course worried about Taddeo and Signy too but with Valerius watching them she didn't fear for their health or safety as much as she did with Cecily here before her now. Of course all she could do was comfort her daughter but the alternative of leaving her completely alone was not something she had even considered for a moment.

Stories were hardly her forte, but she would certainly try her best for her poor little daughter. "What would you like to hear a story about?" Emer questioned, certainly having no ideas really of her own. She would settle herself down beside her daughter now, awaiting her imaginative little mind to come up with a topic.

The warmth of her mother envaloped her and the shivers she had felt before where instintly gone. She pushed her nuzzle into her mothers warm side and sighed with contentment as her cold nose began to warm. Her orbs fluttered upwards to look at the woman as she did so and giggled, half expected a repreveal. After the initial fluttery lights that had attacked her the girl had not hallucinated since, nor done anything else terrifying or dire. Instead she seemed to simply stay on a state of tiredness, fever and general illness. She had heard others had cought this and was impatient for it all to go away and leave alone her sweet home of Valhalla.

With Emer settled beside her she knew she had the all of the other womans attention. Settling her head on her paws beside the larger wolf she moved her eyes upwards and thought over the question. ?Maybe about packs or foxes or Alphas or pups that save the world? she giggled at her own words and flicked her tail slightly behind her in a very Cecily-like gesture of happiness. It was slower and without her normal levels of energy, but it was Cecily.

Ooc: I love Emer soooooo much

ooc: A little Emer fact; the original Emer was on a different site and nothing like this one. Lasair was actually her pack rather than her last name. Her design was pretty different as well, she had bright dots on her back that almost looked like they glowed and so until I had settled upon her name she was called Firefly and Lampr?g means Firefly.

Her children certainly didn't like to make her life easy. Emer had no idea really what sort of story she could tell about packs or foxes or alphas or pups that save the world. Her life had been a rather uneventful one really, up until the crypt anyway and that was certainly not a story that she ever wished to share with her children or anyone these days for that matter. Valhalla had been informed at the time, but now she wished nothing more than to continue trying to get past it and at least her children did often make that task easier fortunately.

"That's a lot of choice." She commented, though she would still find it within her to smile softly at the little girl, especially as Cecily giggled away clearly happy despite everything. Little moments like that would fill the mother with hope that soon enough she would have her daughter well again, fully back to her normal ways. Though she hated to admit it, Emer was actually missing chasing her children around Valhalla. Their love of adventure may have terrified her but for whatever reason they were far more confident than she could ever hope to be and right now that certainly beat watching even one of her children sick.

But now on with this story, Emer still had no real idea what story to tell but she would certainly have to give it her best shot. "Once upon a time there was a pack called Lampr?g ruled by their alpha Kelan." A small liberty taken with the name of her former pack being used and the name of her brother, it had once been his dream to grow up and lead the pack, not that any of the Lasair family had ever really stood a chance at the title. "They were a very happy pack and had lots of pups running around including Cecily Lasair." She paused for effect there, awaiting her daughter's reaction to her mention.

"Not whilst they were very friendly, they didn't know too much about the world around them and when an even bigger pack of foxes settled near them they began to panic and fear that perhaps they would all be in danger and so Kelan, wanting to protect the pups began to plan for battle as did the alpha of the foxes Muirin." Her other brother probably wouldn't appreciate his change of species for the story but at least he too had been granted a high rank in it. Poor Dervos would have to make do with a background uncredited role instead.

"Not knowing what the two packs were planning, Cecily saw no harm in going off on her usual adventures and whilst out she met one of the foxes called Fuzzykins." She believed that was what her daughter's fox friend had been called, or at least the name that Cecily had given to her anyway. "The two played all day until they both had to go home and when she got back, the pack were quick to question her on where she had been. At first they were worried when she said she'd been playing with a fox but seeing she was unharmed they decided to give the foxes a chance. And now, they all live happily beside each other." It certainly wasn't a very good story, but hopefully Cecily would be happy with it, Emer wasn't sure she could do any better.

Lazy eyes would rest upon her mother?s familiar face. The worries of the past few days where melting away and even her fatigue was pushed into the corner to give room for her excitement. The pup that could not sit still was burning to move and jump at leap, but all she could settle for was the gentle wish of brown appendage behind her as she smiled up at Emer. He had given her lots of choices, just like she had said and was curious to see what the older woman would pick.

Emer leaped into a story about a pack and the pups that where in it. She squealed softly at the mention of her own name, she was in the story! She went on to talk about foxes and how the wolves didn?t know about them. She giggled softly again, thinking the pack leader silly for thinking foxes like her fuzzykin could ever be dangerous. Then her mum mentioned FuzzyKin! It was like a real life story but with fantasy and her butt began a little wiggle behind her. How she wished she would prance about and re-enact the story as her mother spoke it. She had to settle for shifting her weight to plop over her mother?s paws, lying on her back and looking up into warm gold eyes.

The story was awesome, and just like she had asked a pup saved the day. Not just any pup either, Cecily saved the day! Her and Fuzzykins. She snuggled her head against her mothers chest ?That was the best story ever? she said in soft contment. She sighed softly, her little bum wiggling had tied her out and now that the story was finished she found she was out of energy again. ?What has Signy been up to mommy? What trouble sh? g?it naw? her voice became barely inaudible at the end as she found her energy waning and her eyes closing. She hoped her mother would keep talking, the sound of that reassuring voice brought her sweet dreams and happy thoughts.

Emer was glad. She had gotten just the reaction she had hoped for upon mentioning Cecily's name. Such joy only continued throughout the story and whilst Emer thought she wasn't doing a fantastic job for whatever reason Cecily seemed happy enough with the story, and as she finished her darker miniature would declare it was the best story. Emer would think her daughter mistaken, though certainly wouldn't point out the flaws in her story telling, Cecily was happy and that was all that mattered.

Now it seemed the girl would get sleepy again, another wave of exhaustion taking over her after the excitement of the story and whilst she was sorry to see that she was growing weary again already, she wouldn't regret the moment, it had been wonderful to see her little girl smiling and wriggling away. Her words were all jumbled now though, trailing off in a manner that made it difficult to understand though Emer was certain she had a fairly clear idea of what Cecily was attempting to ask.

"All the usual stuff I imagine." Emer responded, though certainly hoped that she and Taddeo weren't giving Valerius too much trouble, something told her that even if they were he still wouldn't admit to it, not wanting to worry the mother anymore. "But mostly looking forwards to playing with her sister soon." She added fondly, it was a sight that the Autumnal coloured woman knew she could hardly wait to see again.

Through her drifting consciousness he words of her mother would reach out and touch her. Her soft vocals like a warm embrace, even though the words were slow to register to the girl. Her words here an answer to Signy and smile tugged at the girls lips even as her eyes remained closed. Yes, she couldn?t wait to play with her sister again as well. ?lirvs yuh mummy? slurred words would tumble once more from her lips as her body moved slightly to curl better around the larger, warm form. She was really losing her grip on consciousness now and all she knew was the soft warmth and words of her mother before sleep took her.

Her dreams where soft and sweet and full of life as she tumbled and played got into mischief with Signy, all the things she could not do in life with the sickness gripping tightly to her. More than that, she dreamed of fox?s and alphas and puppies that saved the day?

She was going again, conciousness fading away as the tiredness took over and dragged her into sleep. The first few times this had happened so swiftly, especially when she had suddenly fallen unconscious Emer would be lying if she said she hadn't panicked, the possibility of her little girl not awaking again crossing her mind briefly. She'd spent countless hours watching her, waiting for signs of stirring and feeling nothing but relief as she finally awoke. Those particular worries had fortunately begun to fade a little, especially as Cecily got no worse, but still the poor mother wanted nothing more than to see her well again.

"I love you too." She would respond softly, once more understanding the gist of her sleepy daughter's words. After a few moments the girl had drifted off again, and whilst Emer was wide awake herself and perhaps could have taken the moment to speak with Valerius, she remained where she was, not wishing to disturb Cecily. She was sure the brown man would be along in time to check up on her anyway, she had no idea really why he was so loyal to her little family, but she was entirely grateful for every little bit of help he gave them.
