Pack Rules, Culture, & History
✭ All non-Dauntless wolves who enter Dauntless lands are considered prisoners until they have either made an appeal to join their ranks or are granted amnesty by a tier 3 ranked wolf or higher. The ultimate fate of the prisoner however can only be decided by the Sergeant Major or the Master Sergeant.
✭✭ Ranks are based on skill and performance, marriage or paternity to a high ranked wolf will not carry over to the mate or child. Ranks are only to be given on the basis of capability and merit, children in particular must make a name for themselves rather than inherit titles. Furthermore high ranked wolves cannot nominate their own children or mates during rites of election as it is a conflict of interest.
✭✭✭ Slothfulness and apathy will not be tolerated within Dauntless. Only the strong shall prevail and those that would lounge on the hard work of others are not welcome within Dauntless. If a tier three wolf is failing in their duties or abusing their power it is expected that their rank be challenged for. If the challenger should fail they may still demand a rite of justice, providing they have proof.
✭✭✭✭ The will of the Sergeant Major is law and therefore the laws of Dauntless are subject to change as they see fit. Insubordination and disobedience are subject to harsh punishment and cannot be overruled by a rite of justice. The punishment for committing these crimes can only be decided by the Sergeant Major and no one else.
✭✭✭✭✭ By force or feather all pups born to Dauntless wolves belong to Dauntless or must be disowned. Caring for others outside the pack is considered a capital offence and may be dealt with accordingly. Before joining Dauntless all wolves must renounce their ties to any family that refuses to join Dauntless themselves, however if a family member should seek to find their loved one by entering Dauntless territory an appeal to join their ranks can be made.
✭✭✭✭✭✭Marriage is a sacred bond that must be treated as such. Committing adultery is a heinous offence and one that should be punished as the affronted partner sees fit. Having children out of wedlock is considered disgraceful, however honor may be restored to the discredited party if either the partner or anyone else demands a Rite of Matrimony after the fact. Rites of Matrimony may be dissolved by rites of justice as long as there are grounds for annulment
✭✭✭✭✭✭✭ Other species are never to be treated as equals to wolves. They may be kept as companions or slaves but should never be allowed to speak unless spoken to or hold a rank above Bondservant. Furthermore, any wolf kept as a slave is to be treated no better than a creature from another species. Any slave behaving disagreeably is to be punished either by its master or another member of a pack with the consent of the creature’s master.
Customs:
✪ The Summer Fox Chase- The Summer Fox Chase is a hunt to celebrate the arival of Summer; while participation in the hunt itself is not mandatory it is expected that most members- in particular hunters- will attend. The hunt is started by the Sergeant Major, and will target a preselected fox to hunt, however, there will be no formal strategy used during the hunt. Whoever catches the fox wins a predetermined gemstore bought prize that will range from an accessory to a small companion. In addition, the winner will be dubbed the Champion of Summer until the beginning of Autumn.
✪ The Fox Fair- In addition to the fox chase a fair will be held within the pack lands for whoever wishes to attend, loners or members of other packs are welcome to attend although the festivities will not begin until the Fox Chase ends and will continue throughout the Sumner.
✪ The Moose Fair- Similar to the Fox fair the Moose fair will be held in the beginning of winter. A formal hunt will be held targeting moose and will be held with the intention of building up stock for the harsh northern winters. Unlike the Summer Fox Chase loners are welcome to participate and will be allowed to eat from the kill after it has been divided among the hunters and the portion meant for the food store.
✪ The Moose Gauntlet- The moose gauntlet is a formal tournament held during the moose fair. While participation is not mandatory it is expected that the warriors of Dauntless will enter. Members of other packs and loners are welcome to join as well. Each match will be for a spar and cannot exceed 3 rounds in length, maiming an opponent is grounds for disqualification. The champion of the moose gauntlet will win a predetermined gemstore bought prize that will range from an accessory to a small companion. In addition a fair amount of clout goes with being the champion of The Moose Gauntlet.
✪Rite of Matrimony- Marriage is considered a sacred bond in Dauntless and a marriage between two mates is cause for celebration. The extravagance of the celebration is dependent on the two being wed and can last from one night to a week. The marriages are ordained by the Sergeant Major unless the Sergeant Major themselves are being wed, in which case the duty falls to the Master Sergeant.
✪Rite of Election- The Rite of Election may be held at any time the Sergeant Major sees fit. It is the formal election of the Command Sergeant. Three wolves maximum must be nominated and seconded and of those three the one with the most votes will become Command Sergeant. Vote worth however varies by rank; the vote of the Sergeant Major and the Master Sergeant are worth 4 votes each, while the votes from the Chief Intelligence Officer, the Chief Quartermaster, and the Chief Infantry Officer are worth 3 votes each. All tier three ranked wolves have votes that count for two, while tier four wolves, veterans, and privates, only count for one apiece. Slaves, prisoners, disciplinary offenders and wolves under the age of two are not permitted to vote.
✪Rite of Justice- If guilt is not immediately apparent for any crime any member of Dauntless may demand a Rite of Justice. Rites of Justice are preceded over by the Sergeant Major and their advisors. The accuser will be expected to provide proof of a crime while the accused may either defend their innocence or explain their motives. Once a sentence is passed the defendant cannot be held responsible for the crime they were accused of if they were found innocent, however if they are found guilty their punishment will be allocated by the Sergeant Major. Rites of Justice may also be used to annul rites of matrimony and to settle disputes between pack members of any rank.
