Devil You Let In (Birthing)
His sight had begun to fail him, something his brother had predicted due to his injuries from the raid. He wasn't the only one who had noticed, but some of his pack mates as well as Pyralis had noticed as well. He had denied that his vision would completely go away for months, but there was no denying he'd lose it. Already his sight had begun to cloud, though it didn't really show on the outside, his eyes in fact, appeared normal save for the scars that ran across his face and the fact he looks a bit unfocused at times. There was no doubt it would be completely gone soon, and although it saddened him, he was glad at least, that he had been able to see everything he could before it had gotten to this point. Now, he was on his way out of his lands again with both companions at his side. He was glad they were here, because the more his sight failed him, the more he seemed to depend on them to guide him and help him when they were needed. Not only that, but they would definitely be helpful if he ever got in a confrontation. He was sure he'd need to re-learn how to fight and navigate once his eyesight was completely gone, even now he needed some help navigating, but this was all new to him...and truth be told, he was a bit frightened.
But he wouldn't let anyone see that.
He was passing by the falls, making his way to the caves that lay beyond to speak with the spirits. Auster seemed full of spirits, and now more than ever he needed their guidance. He carried a decent sized dik-dik in his jaws, a small offering for the spirits he sought an audience with. But as they were passing the stream that trickled from the falls, a familiar scent reached him. he paused mid-stride, nostrils flaring as he looked around. Likewise, Shiva had caught the scent and her ears flattened. He chuckled when he realized why her reaction was that way. He had caught the scent of the moon child, Anamalech Abraxas. Except he didn't catch the other scents, not yet, anyway.
Curious, he altered his course and had Shiva lead the way. Whether Ana would be pleased to see him was beyond him, maybe he just liked to test his luck some days, and today he was feeling rather...testy, so to speak. As they drew closer, his pace slowed and his companions appeared...antsy...what was that other scent? He didn't recognize it as that of fresh puppies for it had been a long time since anyone in the pack had had any, so confusion hit like a ton of bricks for a moment. When they finally located Ana's whereabouts, he had stopped a few feet from her makeshift den. Slowly he stepped forward until he could peer into the den and there he spotted the Goddess, and at her side he could make out the forms of three little bundles, all brand new. The warm scent of milk and puppies and the sudden realization hit him. Oh no...Oh dear god...these...no..they couldn't be, could they? His heart began to race, there was no way! No, he had to be mistaken..."Ana? A simple and obvious answer, but his shock and confusion was hitting him hard, he had to be sure it was really her in there and not his mind playing tricks on him.
He swallowed. Or tried to, anyway. His mouth and throat felt dry as he stared through the mouth of the den, not daring to get closer just in case. He didn't know what kind of mood the woman was in, nor how defensive new mothers were, but if Shiva's amused purr was any indication, this sure as hell wasn't a dream or a trick of his mind. His mind continued to reel. What did he do now? Did he help her? Would she need anything? Should he go in? Stay here? Guard the den? Oh gods he was so lost... |
