Even as she lunged to feint a strike at his chest, Theory knew she'd made a mistake. Rhyme could easily use his weight to force her to her back. How could she subvert his expectations? Trying to use her smaller size to her advantage, Theory tried to drop even lower than his reach and wiggle underneath him entirely. If she succeeded, she would scrabble out from between his hind legs and grab his tail triumphantly in her mouth.

Theory was panting harder now, really using her brain alongside her body. From the trees came a hoarse caw of approval as a small, pie-bald raven soared down from the branches. It circled lower than Imperia, but occasionally cast glances upwards, as if checking for approval.
