Her emotional attacks were wild, and slow, and he predicted them as she moved, and met them each time she went to strike. He waited her out, until her anger turned back into despair, though he had to admit he had preferred the fire in her eyes to the blank emptiness and pain he saw now.

She fell against him, and he caught her, paying no mind to his bleeding limb as he pulled her in close, staining her dark coat with the red of his blood. FInally, she said the words, through he could tell how much it cost her. “But your pack isn’t” he reminded her, no doubt a small consolation considering how much she had fallen for Archon. Perhaps the responsibilities of her leadership would brace her, or perhaps not. Her heart was broken, and there was no easy fix.

A part of him wished he could have given her everything, a strong part of him. He was still alive, and he would have fought to keep himself that way. If he had given to her what she had once wanted, she would not be in pain now. Little Venom would be his… and Zee would not be. In the end, he knew what he had chosen, and the little slave girl was something he would not give up easily. Perhaps, in another world, things could have been differently, but in this one he was Deathbelle’s sworn guard and confident, and Zee’s husband.
