She had been more and more accepting of her duties as a handmaiden ever since she was granted the position, however while she was beginning to adore her routine of going to Zee's den every morning to bathe her and brush out her hairs, Odette was eager to prove to Sirius she was useful too. While she was almost positive he was more appreciative of Odette ever since she took up the sole purpose of helping out his mate, she wanted to prove she could be more. While her chances to prove herself were nearly impossible in the Oasis or on the transport to their new home, once all had been settled down in the Plains, inspiration had struck her. Well, it was more like Cordonia had struck her, with a creature she had called, a chicken. The sand cat, even out of her element, managed to capture a young chicken as a meal and brought it to Odette for dinner. A generous offer, but Odette had never seen such an animal before, and the fawn woman had many questions. Do they all look like this? Is it a boy or a girl? Where did you find it? How easy was it to capture? All of which the feline answered, and then some. Odette soon came to realize these birds could be harvested, for more than just their meat! Eggs. After eating, a delicious meal, Cordonia showed Odette where she had caught the bird, and found little white shells nearby. Cordonia explained they were eggs, rich with protein as their yellow yolk was packed full of nutrition for the baby chicks.
At first, Odette was hesitant about eating developing baby chicks, regardless of how delicious it would be. But Cordonia quickly swiped one from a nest and dropped it onto a rock, cracking the egg and ending the potential life growing within it. Without wanting to waste the opportunity, Odette lapped at the yellow goo and was surprised at just how tasteful and energy packed the small shell was. Together they talked about how they could harvest the birds, both for their eggs and for their meat. From dusk till dawn the two worked out their plain, from the finest touches to the large picture, and then the idea struck her. Why feed just the two of them, when they could upscale this operation and feed the whole pack? This was it, her chance to prove to Sirius she could provide for his pack, pull her own weight, and perhaps even elevate her from her slave status. Though Odette was sure she would probably still find time to attend to Zee properly if she was not granted her promotion yet, she was still as hopeful as ever. So when morning came, Odette slipped out of her den and called out for the Alpha, her nerves a mixture of excitement and fear. She wanted to do this, but she would need his blessing to do so.
