but it's better if you do

The alabaster brute had recently had his life turned upside down. He wasn't sure why it had happened, or how, but the change had been a sudden and pleasant surprise. He was a father now. A real father - not simply a source of DNA to be put off to the sidelines as irrelevant. His dream had come true, finally, but he was concerned. Seraphim worried that he would not be a good father, that he would screw everything up. And he worried that his status as the sire of Morphine's children would be cause for Devya to hate him. He only hoped he was wrong.
Not long before finding his newly-adopted daughter, he had met again with a pup who was familiar to him. Seraphine. It was strange, how she had ended up with a name so similar to his while he had not known the woman who adopted her after the loss of her true mother. He felt a pang of sorrow for the girl as he recalled her injuries from the fire, but he shook it off. It was Sera's words that had brought him out here to the river that cut Alacritis in half. Her words had intrigued him, and he had come to investigate.
Sera had informed him of the loss of her second mother and her newly acquired father, Demonio. After a time, Seraph had learned that this Demonio resided in Valhalla, far west of his home near Tortuga. He had set off early in the morning to meet the male who had adopted his friend, and now the sun was high in the sky, warming the skin under his off-white pelt. He wondered if, perhaps, the stranger would have any advice for him, and wished to ask him about how he came to find Sera. While he normally wasn't one to socialize, his desire to perform well as a father won out. He would give in, but just this once.
As he came to the river's edge, he stopped, gazing into the clear waters with narrowed green eyes as he let his ears perk to listen for any noise around him. A scent had caught in his nostrils, and he wondered if perhaps his search would be over long before he had planned.
