Chade felt a sense of pride in being a true hunter for the pack. He wasn’t just some tag-along yearling but a true hunter that benefited the pack. Due to the past Ricin and he had shared neither took having a home lightly. Chade would do anything for the group of wolves who had taken him. So it was the young man was more work than play.
He had already hunted in the early morning hours as the sun was hardly up in the sky. In the afternoon he had rested from the hunt, spent some time with his brother and now here he was patrolling the edge of firefly lake where it bordered the pack land. He wanted to make sure any predators nearing them were found before they got on pack land.
Near the lake, he spotted a lion. It was minding its own business, doing no one any harm at the moment. However, the lion was still close to his pack land and was bound to eventually get hungry. It also looked like it would be a great fight. The red-eyed wolf charged toward the lion, ready to either chase it away or kill it, which depended on the lion's intelligence.
The lion turned to face the wolf and apparently didn’t think Chade was a real threat. A large wolf, but with a lankiness that came from youth despite the sinewy muscle. Chade ran towards the head but as the lion moved to lunge in Chade deftly pivoted out of the way, spinning about to grab on to a front meaty shoulder, biting in to peel flesh back before the lion knew what hit him.
Chade would normally have Swift with him but today Swift had asked to go off alone so that she might try a lone hunt without the protective wolf ready to protect her. Now she was going to miss out on this fun.
