I don't lion around

The kid bit the cat and the thing spun, rage in its eyes. It made to lunge for the boy but Merrick's teeth were latched firmly in one hind leg just above the heel and he pulled and jerk, each motion sinking his teeth further and further into the thick muscle, which he promptly shredded. Yeah, that leg wasn't going to do much anymore.

With its attention pulled in two directions, the cat began slipping up. Merrick bit here and there and soon the cat looked as though it was spotted with all of the different patches of blood on its tawny pelt. The lion turned and roared at Merrick, swiping out and him and in true Merrick fashion, he roared back and swiped out with one huge, taloned paw, clipping the cats lower jaw and leaving huge gashes in its wake.
