The ghost and the darkness

Eligos stepped into the lake land, intent on beginning an unscheduled patrol since he time on his paws and nothing to do with it at the time. But less than ten minutes had passed before he became aware that the border had been disturbed. The scent was too familiar, and brought back the memory of not long ago when he had rescued one of Ina's pups from this same beast. A lion. It seemed the lion had gotten desperate since he had been chased off his attempted kill, and he had come here to find a potentially easy meal... And revenge.
Eligos cursed, then threw back his head to call out for help from any of the pack's warriors who happened to be nearby. He should have gathered a war party and gone after the cat as soon as it had become a problem the first time, but so much had happened that he'd forgotten about it. Well, this time there would be no more chances for the big cat. There was going to be a lion skin drying in the ravine by the end of the day.
