Summer Growth [Pup Healing Lesson]

She’d asked Ardyn to bring the pups to her hut for their first lesson in healing. A sunny late morning warmed the air, filling it with the heady smells of plains grasses, summer flowers and her herb garden. She sat in front of her hut, the items for today’s lessons arrayed in front of her as she watched for Ardyn and her pupils for the hour.

How were her remaining children doing? She’d spoken with them not long ago, and they had chosen to remain with the Nomads to further their training. Later, in the future, it remained to be seen if they would join her in Valhalla or continue along their own paths, visiting from time to time. Whatever their choices, she accepted them. It wasn’t Nomad culture to force a path.

Her swirl-painted sides expanded in a deep sigh, and she let it out in a long hush, then gently tucked the grief aside as she heard the patter of paws and the larger tread of Ardyn’s steps among them.

Grief that she’d never see the three children she’d lost grow up and grasp their futures or see her husband’s paternal pride as they gave their children their first Nomad’s Marks. Grief that he and Paladin both would only be able to watch in spirit as Legacy was given her first Marks. It was what it was. The pain would fade in time.

For now, she smiled softly, ready to greet the day’s students.
