The residuum that followed the storm that had shaken the land, had left the child in a precarious position. His mother, his supposed care-taker, the one who was supposed to be there for him, raise him from an infant had vanished, and suddenly returned. The emotions that coursed through him were various, from anger to despair. He didn't want to be around his siblings, hadn't returned to the den they had shared since the meeting, instead, he had taken shelter under a bush as the ash rained down. He didn't want to look at them. It would have been far easier if the scouts his father had sent out, had reported his mother as dead. Death was easier to deal with than disappointment. He was furious with her. He didn't want to speak with her, at the same time he wished she'd press into him, shower him with the affection and love that he had missed.

The emotionally paralyzed child was at the edge of a small pool, his amber gaze reflecting in the water. His eyes were dull, coat becoming splotchy. He was starving and he simply couldn't care, couldn't feel. His head ducked down, he stared into the water, looking at the reflection of his mothers coat. He felt as if he wasn't even his father's. Had that been a lie? He looked nothing like the pale king. He felt nothing like him. Could he really be his fathers son? A sigh left him, and he pushed himself to his paws. Turning from the pool, he plodded away from the water, his eyes downcast, watching the ground as he walked, not really paying attention. Where could a pup who trusted no one turn too?
