Obsidian

The water sloshed noisily around the horse?s muzzle, so she wasn?t aware of the swift approach of a wolf and moose until they were close. As her ears caught voice of the thundering hooves, Obsidian lifted her head with a jerk, ears pricked. A moose, male, was charging? Her? Muscles tensed, but she?d never been one to run first thing. A moment later, a white wolf with fascinating black markings, including one that resembled the things she?d seen on the tops of some human buildings, pelted from the bushes, noticed her, and tried to halt the forward momentum he had going.

It didn?t work, and the wolf dropped into the water, simultaneously colliding with her legs. He went under, and the black mare reared back a bit to give him room, before snaking her head forward and fastening her teeth around hiss scruff. Raising her head, she hefted the wolf?s weight and sloshed her way to the opposite shore of the river, clambering up the bank and dropping the soaked canine on the grass, pausing to give herself a quick shake before turning to look across the river at the enraged cervine. ?You pissed off Eddard.? Such a casually voiced statement.

She turned her head to look at the waterlogged male, taking him in. He was unfamiliar, and had no pack smell to him. Lowering her head, she nosed him, checking for any injuries that she might have to drag him to Erani to treat. Thus far, she couldn?t find any open wounds, so she backed off, long tail flicking as she moved between the bull moose, standing ground and marking the male as a non-threat. Eddard, as she had christened the moose, stamped a few times to make his notion on the wolf clear, then ambled away. The message was clear. Keep the wolf out of his way, and things would be hunky dory.

Business attended to, Obsidian turned to look at the wolf in question. ?My name is Obsidian. I?m a friend of the Pack, Valhalla.? Friendly as ever.
