Rane trotted into the steep hillside, and brought his maw down to the small pool beside him. Droplets fell from his jaw as he looked up to the sky. It was a beautiful red-orange, dotted with pure snow white clouds. He sat down for a rest in the heat. He was running for, how long now? The night he remembered in his memories were crystal. The air became cloudy with ash, the trees fell one by one, burning the dry grass below them. The land became barren, the pack became forgotten. Loki, Milo, Aspen, and Dawn made it out okay, but the rest of the wolves, he didn't want to find out. One problem remained. Where were they now? It seemed only hours since the incident, but was really only seven days. Should I give up now? He thought, what if I die here not knowing if they survived? That is my worst fear. Silhouettes of Spruce trees grew longer as the night grew. Scents of other wolves drifted through the forest, and the pounding of the falling water became more prominent. He lifted his head in shock. What if I'm sitting on owned land? He got up slowly, but his thoughts came to him slower. Something about Ludicael, and a nearby pack? Maybe this was his chance to start over!? But what if these wolves don't appreciate loners on their land? Well for one thing, I wouldn't. He paced to and fro. If he had to put up a fight he wouldn't hesitate. But first, he would be interested if they were looking for someone. But why would a random wolf come here of all places and accept him just like that? He paced again and again, this time faster. The scent was drifting from the western part of where he was standing now, what if he announced himself there? Could he? He ran and slipped at the same time down the rocky hillside, jumping into shallow pools. No, I'll stay here. If they were really real, then wouldn't he meet them in the future perhaps? It dawned on him, maybe his assumptions were wrong, and there was no pack here? Oh well, I guess I'll find out. The sky became dark as he curled into a ball, tucked his tail in and closed his eyes.
