Ate the bread that once was stone

Fell from a cliff, never broke a bone

A roar from Limp Ear caused Sucre to flinch and freeze up, but only for a second as the other male's charge awakened a protective side of him he wasn't aware he had. The brute rushed forward, placing himself firmly between Hati and the Blacks and had it not been for the other wolf's sudden change of heart, they'd have met somewhere in the middle.

Standing between them with his hackles and tail raised, Sucre glared at Hati. Unlike the other, he remained silent. Watching, gauging. He wasn't sure what had happened or why the other had suddenly turned away, but all the humor had left him. He was beyond serious now and should the other take up the fight again, there would be blood.

All was still for several heartbeats as Sucre waited and it wasn't until Twig called for her sister that the brute began to breathe normally. Time returned to its normal pace. Somewhere behind him someone was struggling for air.

He didn't turn from the other male, choosing instead to keep his eyes on him while backing up to where the others were at. It was then, as he was offering Twig his shoulder, that the brute realized that Twig's sister wasn't there and it occurred to him that the gasping he was hearing was from her. His snark began to return. Great. He took pride in a lot of things, but super strength wasn't something he could claim. Hopefully she'd get her act together because there was no way he could assist both of them in getting out.

Still keeping his eyes on Hati, Sucre moved with Twig towards her sister. "Uh, Twig's sister?" What had Twig just called her? Maddy? "Madieke?" The name tumbled off his tongue with difficulty, but he pushed passed the strangeness of it. "Could you maybe do that...outside?" Lordy, at this pace they'd never get out of the cave.
