Silence. That's all there was. Jian knew this was the cave where she had last seen her mother and her brother, this was where the pack her mother had brought them to used to be. She was certain. Or was it? She didn't know what to believe any more. She padded further into the cave till she was just outside of the ring of light that poured in from the entrance, her paws barely making a sound with each smooth movement of her legs.

She wasn't a pup any more. Now she was a year old, pretty much fully grown, and the long legs that had made her clumsy as a child now helped her stand at her full thirty five inches of height. Despite the confusion that tangled her mind and the blood of her captor that was smeared across her jaws and chest, her stance held a certain confidence. After she had not only escaped but destroyed the brute that had drug her away that dark night, she had gained a definite sureness in herself and her abilities. But, she knew that there was one wolf who could still bend her anyway he wanted without so much as a blink, and yet that was exactly who she craved to see.

A sigh passed her lips as she sank onto her haunches, her tail curling around her and across her forepaws much like her mother used to do. If they weren't here, where could they be? How would she find him now? She breathed the air in deeply, but there was no sign of the wolves she had come to find. With a short shake of her head she stood, turned back the way she came, and went back out into the sunlight.

Jain spotted a pool of water near-by and she trotted over to it. Looking down at her reflection she saw the deep rust color of the mostly dried blood in her fur and she realized that it was hard for her to care. It almost felt like a badge of honor for killing the brute that had kept her from Lel, but all the same she bent down to the water, first lapping up some of the liquid and then submerging her muzzle to begin washing it off. In the back of her mind all she could think about was what would happen when she found her brother. She wondered what he would do, how he would react... She guessed only time would tell, if she was even able to find him.
