Only a life lived for others
Roman was convinced that the red woman's cure was poison - Qanik might have been inclined to agree, made nervous by the stranger's behavior, but Gossamir had confirmed that none of the herbs were poisons. Still Roman was convinced, and Qanik was nearly at her wit's end with worry.
The scent of an intruder on her patrol was almost a relief, a distraction from the worries and fears chasing themselves endlessly through her mind as she paced the border. Her purely white form moved smoothly through the snow, blending with the wintry environment as only she among the Tortugans really could. The intruder too had fur of white, but the coral tinge of an albino stood out like traces of blood on the snow.
The intruder called for Roman, and her voice made Qanik's pelt prickle uncomfortably. She could not let any know that Roman was still sick - it was a serious weakness and handicap for the pack and with the red woman undoubtedly peddling her cure to the other packs it would leave them vulnerable to attack as the only sick pack remaining. Blue-gray eyes flashing with more fire than they had in some time, the legionary stepped forward, breaking her previous silence. "Queen Roman is not available. You are trespassing in Tortuga's lands, stranger. Say what it is you need to say and leave peacefully, or you will be expelled with force." Her low voice was calm, her stocky body poised with the ready confidence of a life-long warrior, but her stance was not outright aggressive. It was not in her to initiate violence when diplomacy would still serve; she would let this albino female make the decision whether or not this encounter would turn violent, but if it did Qanik would put a swift and sure end to it.
