Without much consideration, he was given an answer. It was a cheap line, but she was right, it drove her point home and turned his suspicions into firmer things. She went on to clarify further until her goal was crystal clear and there was no doubt in his mind what she was after.

Mercy stepped closer, her movements coy and enticing. Her interest and how it seemed to consume her being was enough to grab hold of his interest and speed up the beating of his heart. That interest in and of itself was a turn on. It wasn't often that he was pursued. He rather liked it. "I would be lying if I said it was easy," he murmured. The words were intended as a joke, but upon delivering them Valentine found they lacked a humorous edge. He was distracted; he wanted to touch her and his mind stalled at the thought, but there was a barrier between them that he couldn't quite bring himself to break.

She shattered it with a touch.

Her teeth left searing trails of heat in their wake and before he could stop it, a breathy rumble left his lips. Without thinking he leaned down to reciprocate, to share with her the feeling she'd given him, but at the last second he steeled himself and paused. He needed to think, to weigh the consequences. Her wants were amplified by her heat. He didn't know what it was like, couldn't guess at her inner workings, but he had been around more than a few faes in season to know that what she might want now may not accurately represent her wants when she wasn't driven by an instinctual need. The last thing he wanted to be was a regret. It wasn't a consideration he gave to most, but this was Mercy and she deserved it.

They were close enough that he could feel her breath on his face. He ached with the desire to step closer, but he held back, not quite ready to make a move yet. "And if you regret it?"
