You can put more on tomorrow, your dad'll need it when they start stiffening up. Why don't you go on over to your dad's den and make it super comfortable for him so he can sleep tonight, ok?"

She waited - tipping the rinse water over the sternum wound and dragging over the plantain, comfrey, yarrow while she waited - until her daughter had left, the pouting offset by the pride of having a job to do, before turning a surprisingly serious gaze to Valen. The kratom was surely taking effect by now so hopefully his wounds - the physical ones as well as whatever emotional ones were jabbing at him - would be somewhat soothed. "What happened?" she asked quietly. "I'm not going to laugh, Valen. Not everything's a joke, not even for me. I just want to help you." She leaned down to scoop up the plantain, comfrey, and yarrow to masticate them together in her jaws while she waited.
