Paging Doctor Witch Doctor

Her mother snorted, and Evangeline scowled at the vain attempt to smother her laughter. But Cascade went on to speak frankly, giving the proper name for the dangly bits and their use. Vana listened intently, and had about a billion questions, but almost immediately Cascade went on to dismiss her. Vana's mouth opened to protest the injustice, but she paused calculatingly. If she whined about leaving, her mother might not think she was ready to be a healing apprentice and then she'd be right back to doing nothing just like the babies. If she wanted her parents to keep treating her like a grown up like this, she might want to reconsider her usual strategy of crying to get her way, at least sometimes. Besides, Cascade was asking her to do something super special for her dad to make him comfortable. She couldn't argue with that! She liked helping Daddy and the attention it got her was far more satisfying than what she got from tantrums. "All right," she said sulkily. She'd go find some dry moss or something, maybe even catch a bird and use it's feathers! That would be really comfy for him, and then tomorrow she'd get the bruises-water from Cascade and put it on his bad bruises again... A little more cheerfully, she hitched herself to her feet and sought to give her Daddy a sweet little kiss on the cheek. "Bye Daddy, see you later," she told him, before trotting off toward his den. |
