Don't be crabby

Kotori had slept deeply after the prior days’ excitement, once he was close to waking up he was full of dreams of yesterday's adventures, showing it with all his growls, and kicking legs, lip twitching, and a whole array of motions. Once awake he was quick to want to play and soon enough had found Briar and challenge her for a race to the water's edge. Where exactly was the finishing line? If it was the water itself then he defeated himself, skidding to a stop in the sand as he spotted a strange creature moving along. The weird thing was moving sideways, it's flat like body with thin legs moving him along, and weird claw-like pincers upfront. “hey hey Briar, looky!” Kotor circled the strange creature, which seemed to be ignoring him, and continued its sideways walk. “It’s funny looking.” He’d remember the race later, and of course claim he would have won if not for his important find. talk |

Never one to be out done, she knew she couldn't turn down Kotori's challenge for a race when he posed it to her that morning. Even though she'd rather go poking around at the plants near the den again, she figured there would be plenty of time to do that after their race. So she took off after him, managing to stay neck and neck with her brother the whole way. However, shortly after hitting the sand, she realized that her brother had suddenly stopped and she made it all the way to the water's edge by herself. While she was happy to have won, she was still a little irritated at Ko for giving up on their game without seeing it through. She slowed to a stop, ungracefully stumbling till she halted right before actually reaching the water. Turning back around toward him with a scowl, she was just about to fuss about him not finishing the race when he called to her to come look at some creature he had found.
Her irritation immediately forgotten, Briar's face lit up with curiosity and she hurried over to where he was standing to come look at the big, angle-y creature that had a bunch of legs and what looked like really pointy things on the ends of a couple of them. It was flat and didn't have any fur! Her brother circled around it and she did the same, eyeing it curiously and eventually trying to imitate it's sideways walk - only to make herself stumble over her own paws in the process. How did it move like that!? Standing behind the crab, she reached out and swatted the thing on the top of what she assumed was its head or maybe its body, seemingly startling the thing as it skittered to turn around and look at her. The hardness of its shell surprised her and her brows lifted with interest. "It's hard on the outside! Harder than a bug for sure.... But what is it?"

So Briar didn’t know what it was either? Kotori’s tail was flagging fast back and forth, glancing up at his sister only when he noticed her stumbling, “hah! Nah, it's like this,” Kotori tried to do the same stunt, his first side step was slow but then of course he had to show off and tried to do two more steps quickly and had him likewise stumbling to regain balance. “Well, that proves it’s a dumb way to walk.” There was no way this thing could do anything better than Briar or him unless it was something stupid. “Um,” what it could be sure was the question, “maybe a giant bug? Just harder than the others?” That said whacking a paw at the top of it and watching one of its front claws raising up threateningly. “Hey, why don’t we flip it over and see what the underside looks like? Maybe it will help us figure out what it is?” The crab was getting fed up and no longer running it had its little pincers out and as Kotori tried to get around behind to flip it the little Krab circled about. “Look Bri' he’s threatening me!” Kotori waved his paw right above the crab’s range, teasing it. |

She gave a firm, resolute nod of agreement when her bother declared that the way it walked was dumb. Obviously that must be true if they couldn't do it, right? It didn't seem very effective or efficient at all! What if it needed to go forward? How did it see where it was going anyway? All questions that she of course would throw at their parents as soon as they got back home. No question would go unanswered if she had her way! They all got stored away for later into the list of many, many questions her curious little might thought up.
A giant, extra hard bug seemed like the most logical answer even though it still didn't seem like the right answer. Why was every other bug she had come across so small while this one was so big? She grinned and was about to second the idea of flipping it over, however, the creature raised its pointy, sharp looking claws at them after they hit it experimentally with their paws and as Ko pointed out it started to threaten them. It was no longer doing that weird walk toward the water and instead was now facing off with them with its claws raised. She giggled as she watched her brother dance around with the thing in a circle. It was surprisingly nimble considering the fact that it's legs moved in a really weird, dumb way.
"You distract it and I'll flip it!" she declared and let the bug thing focus on just threatening Kotori while she snuck up behind it. She used all of the creeping, sneaking skills she could muster to make sure she wasn't detected and once she was right up behind it she got her nose under its hard, oddly shaped body and with a flick up of her head she tossed it forward. It did a front flip onto its back and its long, pointy legs wiggled and flailed in the air. Her giggling filled the air as she looked at it, her tail wagging away while she examined their prey.
