Wet Wolf Paws

Come down, come down sweet reverence
They had pushed through a small forested area as it began to rain again and Jynn sighed as she ran into another pack border. Apparently Valhalla had some neighbors. She crouched under the trees as the rain fell harder, peering out at a curious lake that was shaped like a wolfs paw. It was filled with deep teal water punctuated with lilly pads and even a few ducks who were swimming on the small lake and enjoying the rain. Tall, lush green grasses grew around the lack and between the pools that formed the lake. Jynn moved around the border, sticking under the trees as best she could for a little shelter.

Álarr grumbled to himself as the rain started up again, falling harder this time. As luck would have it there was another pack next to Valhalla so they wouldn't be able to shelter here. Perhaps they'd have better luck at the ravine. Álarr ducked his head particularly low as he moved through the low trees, trying not to get his horns snagged in the branches above. That was all he needed, to get stuck. He still had some residual embarrassment from getting tangled in thorns with Pesto years back. He felt a slight stab at his heart at the thought of Pesto. He still hadn't been able to pin her down, to just ask if she wanted to hang out or something. He was starting to wonder if their friendship had simply faded away and no longer existed.

Come down, come down sweet reverence
The rain continued to fall and Jynn glanced over again at the lake where she could hear the happy quacking of the ducks and the sound of rain on water. "I bet there are some nice fish in there. I like catching fish more than eating them though. I prefer small mammals myself, what about you Álarr. You a fisherman?" Living in a rain forest she'd gotten used to occasionally fishing and pulling in large fish but it was a dangerous task as there were fish in those waters larger than her. A few flashes of lightning danced across the sky, followed by a low rumble that rolled across the sky.

Álarr winced at the sound of thunder, his eyes turning skyward to study the clouds. There was just a sheet of gray overhead and he wondered if there was more to this storm than just the rain. There was no time to think much on it though, the sooner they got around this pack and to shelter the better. His ear twitched as Jynn started talking about food. He nodded lightly. "I do fish on occasion but I prefer elk myself." He did like to partake of fish now and then but they could be rather labor intensive to prepare. With elk you could get the hides in addition to the meat and while he'd heard of tanning fish skin he couldn't imagine it was less labor intensive than an elk hide.

"Hmm… I don't think I've had elk before." Jynn had mostly eaten a variety of small mammals, fish and reptiles. She'd picked at a deer carcass here and there but never an elk. That wasn't terribly surprising since she was a loner and had never really hunted in a pack before. Large prey just wasn't a common source of food or her. Not that she was complaining. She'd take a nice fat rat over pretty much anything, along with some nice wolf apples. Ugh, she was making herself hungry just thinking about it. Maybe once she got into Auster she could try hunting something in the wildberry grove.

Álarr slowed to a stop as he stared at Jynn. She didn't see him stop, she kept on walking but he was stunned that she'd never tried elk before. In hindsight he realized it made sense but in the moment he was surprised to meet a wolf that had never sampled elk meat. "I wish I'd know sooner, I could've given you some elk jerky for your journey." He'd taken care to help with the preservation of wild and domestic game, utilizing herbs and spices to help with not only the preservation but also the flavor. "Perhaps another time?" While this would be a time of parting for them he was fairly certain she'd be back.
