first puppy outing

They had grown from beans to baby polar bears, baby polar bears to puppies. Growing larger and stronger by the day-- Víðarr was in awe of them. For all the stony, shadowed silence that he tried to put on, he loves puppies. It's the first time he's been through it, up close and personal, from minute one though. Víðarr loves them. He has loved them for a long time, longer than they've been here. It's his job to make sure they don't forget. Okay listen he loves them but they've also grown into loud little heathen beasts, and they need to be out of his den and out from under their feet for the love of the gods how can anyone move in here-- right. It would be nice for them to be outdoors, at least for long enough to get tidied up. They should be... hardy enough by now, right? Looking to Tenshi for the final say (their mother, a healer, very smart, his wife, really she's the authority on this)-- good. "Stay where you can see the den." It's a stern warning, one that comes from the viking king before they even breach the door. The spot they'd chosen for the primary den site was flat, broad, safe enough. As safe as they could be in the Maw. Respecting the mountain is a way of life. "Be good." Now is when he softens, chuckles. Letting his little horde out into the world and looking to his wife, Víðarr can't help but crack a smile. They'd done it. "Víðarr" |

The earthy toned boy emerged from a tangle of snarling fur and limbs, his bright head popping above the mess of his siblings as their father spoke. Too large ears perked comically on his not-but-grinning face as his brain turned to process what was being said. Stay where you can see the den... but they were in it... Be good When was he not? But quickly vivid green eyes fell on the wall of light and everything seemed to fall into place. "OUTSIDE!" he shouted excitedly, leading the charge out into the open... or he was, until and oversized paw caught a rock and sent the boy tumbling tail over teakettle out into the big wide world.

Styrmir exits the den more cautiously than his littermates, sapphire gaze flitting from left to right and back again as he scans for potential threats. not that he doesn’t trust Mother and Father to keep them safe - both are truly formidable creatures, of this his young mind is already certain - but there’s six of them and only one each of his parents; no harm in having an extra pair of eyes looking out for trouble. a flash of brown in his peripheral alerts him to Steig’s hasty exit, and Styrmir’s head whips around to keep him in sight - which means he witnesses his brother trip and subsequently fall.
picking up his pace, the boy trots over to Steig’s side and examines him with a critical eye, searching for injury. “are you alright?” he asks, nosing his brother’s shoulder to help him to his feet.

Barely listening as his father gave whatever directions before letting them out into the open, Björn was too excited. Too ready to go. Ready to get right out of the gate, and right into the world, it was all far too good for the boy. A big breath in and a big breath out as they all stumbled out, blinking in the sunlight. The most beautiful day he'd seen so far, and Björn was going to make it his. "Couldn't wait five minutes?" Björn laughed, though a sideways look from his father sent the boy to his orange brother's side. "Come on, I want to see the fire pits!" That was... probably still within sight. Hell if he knew, a bonk of his muzzle on both of his brothers' shoulders, and Björn is off with a giggle. Probably just needed to be distracted, even if was a little sore, right? BJÖRN Ragnarök awaits. |

Growls and snarls from the dark-furred boy as he wrestled about with his sister, refusing to give Rúna an ounce of mercy as they tumbled about one another. Defeat would never be an acceptable option for the fiery spirited lad! Amidst biting at her ears, their father spoke, ushering them all out of the den for the first time. Suddenly the imminent victory within his grasp didn't seem quite to enticing when positioned with getting to see the whole ass world for the first time. Hallvarðr released Rúna's ear and scampered off of her, rushing for the entrance after his siblings and blowing right past Styrmir to finally get his first glimpse at the world that was theirs, all theirs! Bright light flooded his eyes, making the boy squint but not slow his stride as he ran out into the fresh summer air. Up high in the mountains, it was still cool, but with a pleasant warmth that felt like sunshine tickling the boy's coat.
Once his vision had adjusted to the daylight like some sort of epic video game intro sequence, Hal batted his blue eyes open and gazed about in awe. They were so freaking high up wow he could see everything from here! His eyesight also adjusted just in time to see Steig come tumbling out of the den over his own paws, earning a hearty laugh from his brother. "Hahaha! Walk much, Steig?" Hal teased his sibling before following after Björn as the other boy took off running for the fire pits. "I'm with you, brother!" Hal announced, grinning from ear to ear and ready to devour this mountain beneath his paws! He wanted to see everything—every nook, every cranny, every rock, boulder, and pebble that made up their mountainous home. Today was day one of forever.

Rúna growled her most ferocious puppy growl as she and Hall tumbled about in the den, bumping into who knew what in the process. Couldn't really tell where they were going as they rolled around and she continued to refuse to give her brother the satisfaction of beating her! Of course the first mention of finally getting to go outside made her abandon their tussle immediately and she scrambled to her paws, more than eager to get out into the sunlight. She stood impatiently among her siblings, a splash of gold and orange among the sea of grays and blacks, looking up at her father with a look that said yeah, yeah, I know, let us go! And let them go he did with one more command to be good–which they obviously would be... maybe.
All of the boys went charging forward, Steig making the most dramatic exit with a prompt tumble that sent him sprawling out of the den which Björn and Hallvarðr of course poked fun at while Styrmir actually tried to help him. Rúna rolled her eyes at the whole lot and walked around all of them to step out into the sun, blinking her silver eyes a bit as she looked around at the full view that she couldn't quite get just peeking out of the entrance of their den. The mountains were huge and she grinned as she walked further out into the open space around the den, wanting to get a better look at the steep valleys and cliffs all around them.

One, two, three, four, five, and... six. Yep, all still there. All still running and tumbling under each of their paws. As soon as their eyes opened and they figured out they could walk, it was as if they didn't stop moving. Honestly, it was tiring. How had she kept up with it before? The look Vidarr sent her told her everything she needed to know. He was ready to release them and so was she.
Staying put on the furs where she lounged near the fire, she watched Vidarr instruct the pups to stay in sight of the den. Tenshi can't help but chuckle. Knowing Vidarr and watching those pups turn from little beans into actual puppies, she had a feeling that following instructions would not be on their things of most likely to do. Hopefully the rest of Heidinn would be ready for the terror their offspring were about to reign down on them.
Once all six were outside the door, Tenshi stretches up into a stand. Her body is still sore, her muscles exhausted, brain foggy as ever so moving about is slow for her these days. Thankful for Vidarr, she moves up beside her Viking King and rests her cheek against his for a moment. "What a beautiful bunch," she murmurs, planting a kiss on his muzzle before exiting to follow after their brood.
Blinking against the bright sun, she pauses beside Runa, looking down at the girl with a smile. "Wonderful, isn't it?" She asks before leaning down to nuzzle the fiery girl's forehead. Tenshi looks over to Strymir then, a fondness to her gaze as she watches him hem and haw over the world around him. "Don't let your brothers leave you behind. Someone has to keep an eye on them," she calls out to the lightning striked boy, a smile on her face before she turns back to look down at Runa. "Would you like to see the fire pits as well? Or something else?"

(This post was last modified: 01-11-2024, 09:25 AM by Lumine. Edited 1 time in total.)
Last but not least is Lumine. Preoccupied with tussling with one of her father's bear dogs, her snarls and teaching yelps can be heard from the back of the den. Dust kicks up around the duo as she flies at him with sharp teeth aiming to grab ahold of his leg. It is easy to shake her at this size and he sends her flying back toward the door. The dog stands his ground, lips trembling, a brow raising, then his muzzle is nodding toward the open doorway and the sound of her siblings scurrying outside. Lying on the floor, Lumine twists around to look at the bright light that filters in. Everyone really had left already! "Tack, Fisk!" Lumine calls out, sticking her tongue out at the bear dog before scrambling to her paws. Rushing out the door, Lumine makes sure to brush by Runa and their mother who stand closest to the entrance. Then she makes her way to Vidarr who she bumps into with her shoulder and bites at one of his toes before taking off again. Their boundary is relatively large to their small forms, but Lumine wants to follow her brothers. Keep up with the big boys, she knows she can do it. Making her way over there where Steig is just now getting up from his stumble, Lumine smiles at her bright orange brother and Stymir who is helping him before continuing to catch up with Hall and Bjorn. "Bet you guys can't walk on those coals," Lumine dares them, her tail twitching deviously behind her. Out of earshot from the parents, she stands before the fire pits that smolder and flicker with life. She can feel the heat from them still. The coals spread out to be stoked and kept alive so starting fires isn't difficult especially when the colder months came. |
