He had vanished from her life. Leaving her entirely alone after the death of her father, and her battle with his brother. He was gone, sliding from her grasp like smoke. He had not even bothered to see if she had recovered. Winter had come and gone, spring following suit. Summer has taken a grasp on the land, suffocating it with an unbearable heat. And her dark pelt did nothing but soak it in.

Dark jaws parted, heavy pants desperately trying to cool her body down. Her steps were slow, paws dragging. She had left the island, returning to the mainland, hoping that maybe she would stumble upon her love. But it had all been in vain. He had abandoned her. Turned his back on her. Did he no longer care? Had his family finally taken a hold, taken him away from her?

The sound of rushing water fell on deaf ears, tattered ears drooped, skull hung low. Limbs wobbled with each step until she finally came to tumble in an ungraceful heap of dusty fur. A sigh heaved her sides, the heat slowly claiming her. Vision blurred, her eyes sliding shut against the unforgiving sun. All she wanted was some peace, freedom from the heartache.

He hadn't been right since the fight, he felt broken and incomplete. He felt as though the world had finally come to and end and now he was forced to roam the plains of Armageddon alone. He didn't know why he'd left Devya, he just knew that he couldn't bring her down to his level. He couldn't share these feelings of betrayal and sorrow. He was a murderer, he had killed his own mother after watching his father breathe his last. Something was wrong with him and he couldn't allow it to spread to Devya.
He couldn't say that he didn't miss her, he craved her more still than anything in existence. He didn't deserve her, and he couldnt let her see how much of a monster he really was inside. He'd been capable of taking the life of the woman who had birthed him. What else was he capable of? What if he hurt Devya someday?
He was in search of water, of quenching his thirst in the blinding summer heat. His pale form would find his way to the river, the lack of water had caused him to be delirious. At first he thought she might have been a mirage, her form was stumbling over the dusty ground. Suddenly she would fall to the ground, and before he knew it he was reacting,??"Devya!" there was more emotion in his voice than he had heard in it in months. He would rush to her side, finding she was completely real. Guilt would befall him as he realized how much she must have worried about him. He couldn't imagine the amount of pain he'd caused her just by disappearing. He knew how much he hurt. A whine would escape his lips as his form skid to the ground beside her.??"Devya I'm so sorry, please be okay." he would nuzzle behind her ears and push against her side, desperate to know she lived.?

Her name echoed in her head, and for a moment, she couldn't place the voice. It was so painfully familiar, but she hadn't heard it so long, she didn't want to believe it was him. A whine thundered in her ears, a cold nose pressed into her hot flesh. Eyes fluttered open, two toned orbs searching for the source of the touch.

She would turn, eyes coming to rest on the man she had not seen in so long. For a moment she said nothing, her world spinning with delirium. "Ares." Her voice was hoarse, barely audible. She would turn away from him, struggling to her paws once more. Standing on wobbly legs, she would step away from, watching him warily.

He had been gone for so long, he had left her, without so much as a word. "You left me." The more she spoke, the stronger her words became. Torn and tattered ears fell back against her skull. Eyes narrowed, her new scar playing on her face.

She would stir. That was all he needed to see, to know, to be satisfied. She could do whatever it was she wished. She could beat him, she could walk away from him, she could yell at him and he would have happily accepted it. He felt so hollow, turbulent emotions storming roughly within him. He would watch as she stumbled back into herself, gorgeous aqueous eyes sliding open. She would focus upon his form and would be silent, as though still trying to register his presence. She would chip away at his obsidian heart as she pulled away from his grasp. He would take in a deep breath as he steeled himself for the rejection he deserved. He would not make a move to bring himself into a standing position, completely allowing her to control the whole meeting. He only worried that she needed water as badly, or worse than he.
Her words would sting, but he would make to move to deny it. He had no grand excuse, just that even more so now he could not beg to be in her presence. He didn't deserve to be there and he knew it.?"I don't deserve your company. Devya, I killed her. What's to say I won't hurt you?" his parent's death had shaken him, more so since he knew he had played a lead role in the event. He was a coward for running, he was inconsiderate for not even thinking to tell Devya he was going to be gone.?"I'm sorry I ran, after.." both fights. He ran with his tail between his legs twice when she most needed him. When all he had ever wanted was to be there for her. He wished he had breathed his last on that battlefield with them for all the pain he'd caused his love. His ears would fall back ashamedly as his gaze would avert, completely submissive to her and whatever she chose to do.?

I don't deserve you. Instant anger and hurt shot through her weary body. Eyes ignited into pools of liquid fire. His ears would fall back, his gaze would drop from her own. Lips tightened against fangs, threatening to peel back in a snarl. "You don't deserve me?!" Suddenly she exploded, her world erupting into flames, her voicing rising with every word.

"What about what I deserve?! I love you, and you left me!" Her voice was raw with emotion, her slender frame trembled with barely contained emotion. It was true, he had killed his mother in cold blood just moments after she had killed their father. But even then, she did not fear the boy. She had loved him just the same. She didn't not fear that one day he would turn on her, she had placed her trust in him. And yet he had betrayed her by fleeing.

"You left me." Her words had settled into a barely audible whisper. Her vision blurred with unshed tears. Legs would clumsily push her a step back, her gazing falling to the ground. "Do you not want me? Do not love me anymore?" She would speak just loud enough for him to hear, though her gaze remained fixated on the ground. She couldn't bare the possible rejection.

Every word he never wished to hear would she utter, his heart and self-respect would become shredded. Regret was obvious in his expression, he knew sorry could never be enough. He didn't want to soil her with his presence any longer, but he had promised himself to her and he had failed her terribly. She loved him, and though he never thought himself able to say it he loved her more than life itself. His gaze would be drawn to her as she whispered his misdeeds. He wanted to rip his own heart out and place it at her feet for all the pain he could see so clearly on her. He wanted to comfort her and tell her everything was alright. But it was his fault. He was the reason for her pain, and he wasn't sure if he could live with such knowledge. Devya would continue, finally asking the most heartbreaking of questions. Before he could stop it a sorrowed whine would drip from his bleached jaws. He would shake his head in disbelief as he found words worth utterance, "I love you more than my own life Devya. I would sacrifice the sun for you. I hate myself for causing you this much pain." he would mimic her quiet tones as his lavender eyes would find their way to her form. He would not ask her forgiveness, for that was something he could never accept. He just wanted to end her sorrow.?

She could see the regret and sorrow written all over his pale face, but not once did he ask for her forgiveness. His pitiful whine had her looking up to meet his gaze, relief flooding her as he said that he still loved her. Her shoulder would sag with the relief. To know that he still loved her made her world start spinning again.

Unable to control herself any longer, the dark babe would rush forward, colliding her chest with his own, burying her face in his neck. She would press herself against him, wanting to be as close as physically possible to him, to never let him go, never let him out of her sights. She would pull back only to sprinkle his face with rapid kisses, her own whine piercing the silence.

"Don't ever leave me again." Even though her words were soft, she spoke firmly, demanding him to obey. She wouldn't be able to bear it if he left her again. It would be the last time. Once more she buried her face in his neck, unshed tears wetting both their pelts. She couldn't help it, for long she thought she had lost him forever.

All he really wished of her was that she give him what he deserved, she should have ripped into him to cause him the pain that he had given her. He wanted her to make him bleed, to physically feel the torture that he forced her through. As he waited for her final judgement, he would wait to be beaten. Instead she would collide into him, their bodies entwining into a much needed embrace. Despite the awful heat he would feel a coolness spread throughout his body, like the most refreshing of summer springs washing over him. He could not be close enough to her, his own form would press into hers, hoping to somehow combine their bodies so he never had to leave her again. He would return her sweet kisses, so thankful to have them instead of her teeth. She would command him never leave her again, and he would obey. He couldn't leave her, she was his life force. If he caused her such pain again, surely he would throw himself into the volcanoes depths. "Never. My heart and soul belong to you." he would bury his face into her soft fur, never had he been more thankful to have her in his presence. "I'll follow wherever you lead." his gruff voice would soften for her, as he gave control of his life to her.?

His touch was like a drug, relieving all her pain and heartache. She leaned into his touch, loving the kisses he returned. His words were like a balm to her wounds, soothing them, healing them. She would make sure that he never left her again. She couldn't imagine her life without him. She needed him. For a moment she said nothing, simply enjoying the proximity and affections. It had been so long. A happy sigh would slip from between her jaws, a small smile playing on her face.

"I want to find us a place to call home." She spoke softly, unsure of how he'd respond. She had brought him to her last home, with Taurig, but her mentor had vanished, he had lost their home, their pack, and then he disappeared himself. She would never turn her back on the man who had taken her in, but she needed to focus on what was best for her.

With slow steps would lead them towards the water, not stopping until she was belly deep. She had carefully selected a place with calm waters so they didn't get swept away. It was refreshing, immediately cooled her body. All the while, she never left his side, it was as though she had been glued there. Her crown would tip forward to get a drink, and for a moment she caught sight of her reflection. She didn't like it. With more force then necessary, she would snap at the water, lapping it up thirstily.

Though he wouldn't accept it as forgiveness Devya's wounds seemed to be healing. She would continue her affections, as he would to her. Showering her in all the love he could muster. He knew how much he needed he now, he had been so empty and so broken out in the wilderness without her. Why had he left? Why had he run when they needed each other the most he would never know. The world seemed to feel more right with her next to him. There was still a wrongness, one that could never be quelled. They would never have their father back, but they would always have each other. Finally she would speak, her words throwing him slightly off guard. A home. He hadn't felt at home anywhere but in her embrace. "I'm at home when I'm with you Devya. Where ever you wish to call home is where I'll be." he had no preference in such matters as long as he could lay beside her every night he would be content.?

She would move forward towards the river, their mismatched forms slowly submerging into the cool water. It was such a relief from the terrible heat, a sigh would be uttered from his lips as he felt his blood begin to cool. He would lean into her form as she looked into the water's surface. He would admire her reflection as she snapped at the water and began to drink. He would find it odd her enthusiasm, not connecting that she ?found distaste in her image. He would forget for a moment about it, and would enjoy the water's refreshing coolness.?
