How Far We've Come - Matchbox 20

The wolf's eyes opened slowly as he returned to the waking world from the realm of sleep. A smile slowly spread his face. Another day. The gods granted him another day. There was no real room to maneuver in the small dig he'd been lucky enough to find, so he worked his way out of the ball he'd curled into and crawled his way out of it. Once he finally made his way out of the old abandoned den he'd found, he got to his feet. Pulling back into a long stretch as a yawn escaped his scared maw. The sky was dark, a few defiant stars not yet ready to retire. The day had just begun. Good, Newol was keeping with his habit of waking early. Turning, the male set off toward the mountain to his right, a place he'd visited before.

As he walked, thoughts bubbled in his mind. It had been a long summer for him. But now it was winter, paws walking lightly across snow coated landscape. The cold didn't bother him, thanks to his Zaraidd blood. The family line had been forged in the cold of winter. And the great kingdom far to the north that it ruled over was famous for it's winters. But that was not Newol. Yes, he had it in his blood, but it was not him. Newol preferred the summer. It was because of his birth in the desert. The desert sands of oh so long ago. Those desert sands where what settled on his mind as he started up the mountain path. His birth mother, she had been a very kind soul. But she had wanted the best for her child. Newol had been told to run from that desert, and run he had. And now he could gladly say that he'd survived. He was here, in this glorious place, alive, and strong. Looking at the past wasn't something he did often, but the facts of his past made him optimistic about his future.

Finally he made his way to the submerged forest that he'd visited before. The sun had finally found the sky as he did so, bathing the world in light. Looking around, he was standing on the shore between the land and the frozen lake and it's buried trees. He knew that he probably wouldn't spend much longer in the north, he had other business to attend to, but for now he'd just enjoy the moment. As he sat there, the most basic of wolf urges began to build up inside him, and as he washed over his body, he sat. And the most pleasant of smiles on his face, he closed his eyes and aimed his scared snout skyward. His lips parted as his voice took to the sky in song. "Lets see how far we've come! Lets see how far we've come!"

It had been a cool morning, a blanket of snow under her own white paws. The small and slender girl would make her way to the small lake submerged in these woods, the winter always a calming place to her. The song of a howl pulled her attention away from her calming thoughts, a male wolf with a chocolate colored coat sitting on top of a small mountain, singing his heart out. Misha would throw her muzzle up in the air and open her maw in a different song response. "And I've beenn a fool and I've been blind, I can never leave the past behind... It's always darkest before the dawn, shake it out, shake it out, oh-woah." It matched what he was singing, in the ways of a hidden message.

Another song caught the air and caused a twitch of Newol's ear. Ending the note he carried, he slowly brought his maw down as his eye's opened, then turned in the direction that song had come from. Spotting the brown and white fea, he adorned his face with a smile. Raising to his feet, he approached, keeping away from her at a respectable distance as not to make her uncomfortable. With a polite bow of his head, he offered her greeting. "Good Morning." It was funny, how social of a wolf he'd become. Once upon a time Newol stuck fiercely to his small circle. Not wanted to risk new people, mostly because he was afraid of upsetting or offending them. But now, now he did much better.

She would watch the male as he would make his way towards her, a coat of browns and greys, and a scarred snout. Misha would step forward and take a respectful bow, opening her maw. "Misha Elaine Cae. It's a pleasure to meet you sir, and by the way- you were a bit sharp at the end," she would tease, her own melodic chords ringing out softly in the wintery still air. In her earlier days of Alacritis, she would have never come close to a nother wolf- much less a male. But, now here she was, even having a bit fun while speaking with another canine. "What's your name?" She would ask in soft melodic chords, a small smile pulling her ebony lips up in a curve.
