A small trail through the grass fallowed the brute as he walked through with the sun low in the sky. Something about this moment was always the worst. When the sky was covered with the bright and rich orange and pink that came with the ending of the day, the heart went into a fighting mode. The soul realized that this day was reaching it's end and that there wasn't much time left to make it count. It made for restlessness. Especially when there was really nothing left you could do for your troubles except put them behind you. When the world looked beautiful, like it always did when the sky took to being painted it color, it made some evaluate their standings in the world. This is where Sound sat at the moment. After walking for a few more paces, he reached a decent spot where the grass gave way to bushes that where just as overgrown. In the center of the bushes was a small clearing that let the light in. It was there that he took his shelter, and returned to his thoughts as he lowered himself to a setting position.

So, he was in a new land. A long way from where he started. Step one, Check. That was what went through his head as he stared at the light coming down between the leaves of the bushes around him. His expression would most certainly be hard to read to any that saw him. His ears where standing up and his brow raised and alert, but his eyes seemed almost void of anything at all, and his mouth a perfectly neutral line. Not a muscle of his body moved save for his head as it scanned his surroundings and his tail sat still around his left side on top of his paws in front. To ether side of him sat a pack, and if he pushed much further in he imagined he'd run into a point where their pack boundaries lined right up to one another. It wasn't a healthy recipe. But then, there wasn't much in the world that was anymore. A stray thought bounced across his mind that perhaps if he joined one, he could heal. But it was quickly snuffed out by the leading point of view that he just wanted to be left alone. Still. All this free time wasn't healthy for him. He knew that. He needed a pack for the time being simply to keep himself busy. Because the easiest way to keep your mind away from dangerous things was work. And so with that in mind, here he sat. He knew absolutely nothing about ether side. He knew nothing about Alacritis in general. So literally this was all down to a simple toss of the coin and nothing more than that. It seemed like forever ago sense the last time he'd heard a wolf howl for pack acceptance, but he remembered his own very well. It had been on a dusty, lifeless field covered with nothing but dirt. And it had been answered by a mad wolf with only one eye. A long time ago. Just another Riddle In The Dark.

So with that final thought, he took that tattered little crumple of soul and very gently tucked it away back in it's little box. Just the few minutes it had been allowed out proving very straining on it. And with this, he cast his coin, raising his maw to the firey sky and letting his musical voice take to the sky in one long, solid note. Then with that, he returned his snout to face forward, with the same empty expression as before, body perfectly still. Tail still in place. What would the flip of the coin bring him?

Katja ghosted through the underbrush, a shadow flitting from place to place as she sought for her erstwhile ally, the tiger who resided here. There was little sign of him, however. Perhaps he had moved to a different territory? She didn't find signs of another having taken over the land so he was unlikely to have been chased out, and he had never called for her to assist him as she had promised she would if he were to have trouble, so he had chosen to leave on his own. A troubling thought, with the unstable situation she could certainly have used the threat of a tiger's teeth and claws to back up her reign. Still, perhaps he was simply off exploring another area and hadn't been back to refresh his scent markers yet.

There was a scent of another, though, a fresh scent of wolf, and the viking queen stalked it through the tiger's territory. But before she'd quite found the source, a howl rose above the brush. A howl for acceptance into a pack. Black-masked face went smooth in it's expressionlessness. Who was he calling for, in this land with no pack? She brushed her way into a clearing to see the male who had called. She cocked a brow at him. "Who do you be calling for?" she asked him, her voice polite enough if rather tinged with ice. "There do be two packs bordering this land, but no pack does claim it."

Little Black Submarines - El Camino

A flick of one ear toward the direction of the she wolf's approach. He heard her before he saw her. But when she did step into the clearing, he brought his gaze to meet her, eyes moving more than his head, his snout only turning just a tad. The wolf that appeared before him was something of a wonder. Something... Something about her was familiar. Maybe it was the way she carried herself. No. No. That wasn't it. He sat there in silence as he pondered it over for a moment. And even as he did so, nothing about him changed. His eyes dully betrayed nothing and his body remained as it had, Still. His head cocked itself to the side just a little as he began to realize what it was that looked so familiar.

It was her eyes.

She attempted to make her words hospitable, but the marginal success was almost enough to amuse the male. Had he cared enough he might have reassured her that all the hospitality was for the birds with him. But he was more inclined to just go with it. If she wanted to try and be friendly, let her. It wasn't any of his concern. Finally, his voice found itself and aired from his maw. It was just as level as his face, nether welcoming, nor hostile."I am aware. I was calling to the first one to answer." He could see it in her easily enough. She wasn't a creature of emotion, same as him. What did that mean? He was almost certain at this point that the site of another like him could not be anything of a good sign. It took something good and awful to make you want to shut your soul off. But his words where still true. He didn't particularly care ether way, it was down to the flip of the coin. And what of this female? Why was she here? It was on that that he questioned her next. "Do you speak for ether of these packs?"

Katja continued to simply watch him impassively while he spoke, gold-specked mercury gaze half-lidded as she considered. This was simply... what? A test? A shot in the dark? Was he seeing which pack was more responsive, or simply allowing fate and the gods to decide what would happen? The man was expressionless as herself, giving little away, and it was as intrigued as she was wary. It could make for simply refreshingly straightforward conversation, or it could make for danger. She would have to be prepared for the latter. "I speak for the pack Ebony," she allowed finally. "I am Drottning, queen as you say. Was it joining us you wanted then, or questioning?"

She was quiet for a moment. Sound understood that that meant she was considering something, but she did not display what in any way. Of course, what ever it was, it was her business. She introduced herself as a Drottning, a queen. This offered just a small bit of surprise to the male, but he didn't display it. It was just that he was used to beta's being the ones responsible for the handling of new members, to allow alphas all the opportunity they required to simply run their packs. Perhaps she'd been out on another objective and he'd just had that kind of luck. Ether way, she was here now and she wanted to know what it was that he was after.

The was no easy and soft way to put it, so we a heavy sigh, he just said it, meeting her gaze head on with perhaps just a hint of humbleness in his eyes but nothing past that. It wasn't much emotion, but it was just enough that she would be able to understand that this was something he needed. "I want a pack. I'm not interested in politics, I just want to be busy. To have work that needs doing and a place to lay. A point of origin to operate from." His words where to the point. Ether she would understand or she wouldn't. And once he was finished speaking, the crack in his defenses disappeared just as quickly as it had formed.

Katja considered his words carefully. It did not seem a dangerous reasoning, but a risky one. "Ebony do not be a temporary home," she spoke warningly. "Loyalty to the pack be the highest value we hold dearly. Once joined one would not be permitted to simply leave. If you be still interested you may be considered for thegn, our rank of warriors and hunters, or eir, that of healers. Which would you be preferring?" She would find some way to test his skill in the future but for now it would do. She planned to keep more close watch over the new pack than Raisa did anyway, a closer hand on the reins. There would not be wolves in the pack that she did not know or ever see outside of official meetings. "What be your name?" Usually the first question in a social situation where niceties mattered but Katja had no desire to know unless it actually mattered. With his interest in the pack, now his name mattered.
