The wolf that once more crossed into the lands from the north little resembled the one who'd left. Oh, in appearance he was alike, save for the addition of new scars peppering his body and the slightest limp in his right foreleg, barely noticeable. But there burned in him a fire of greater intensity, a clearer goal than he'd ever yet held. Last he'd been here he had allowed himself to become taken with a bitch, had seen her as somehow more than she truly was, had even thought he loved her. The wolf that now passed into the lands was beyond the boyish fantasies he'd once held. This wolf would not let himself become caught up in such foolishness. All that mattered was the Dream, and bringing it to fruition. Everything else was secondary. Everyone else was made to simply be used, and discarded.

He appeared pleasant enough as he padded along, icy eyes sliding across the landscape, and he really did feel as light-hearted and happy as he appeared. But in the long seasons since he'd been left for dead, bleeding out from the bite wounds to his throat, foreleg badly broken, he'd learned a certain... resolve. That resolve had kept him clinging to life long after his brothers had thought him dead, long after he'd gone stumbling out into the night to vanish. It was a tenacity that kept him alive as fever raged through him, as his life dwindled to a dim candle flame, and a tenacity that drove him to hunt for himself as he recovered, starting with the scavengers-birds that came to close in the assumption he was in fact dead. So yes, he was happy. He was bright-eyed. No monster lurked beneath this innocent seeming shell... because Skoll had embraced it, and become it. He was no monster - he was a god.
