Breaking Through Thin Ice

Nerys walked with caution. This place made her uneasy. It was, in every aspect, far too good to be true. The trees here grew tall and proud. Their leaves and needles were green and lush, where at home they had been withered and dry. These lands were thick with prey of all sorts, each creature seemingly more plump than the last. Was it a trick of the mind? Had she gone mad? Had she died? It seemed more likely than the idea that a place so wondrous had existed all along, while her kin in their homeland suffered.
Perhaps one day she would return there, if she even could. The idea that Nerys had somehow died along her journey and awoken in a place like this wasn't one she would discount until she had solid evidence to the contrary. It really did seem too good to be true. She picked her way through the grasses, dodging the occasional evergreen. First things first she wanted to find somewhere to build a den, but choosing the perfect spot in a place like this would be a difficult task to say the least. For the first time in her life the young she-wolf felt as if she had real options. So, in an unusually good mood she pressed on, more eager than ever to find what lay over the horizon.
