Christmas 2019Trick 2019

He’d said he could pull his own weight and Sandor was determined to do just that…he just wasn’t sure how he was going to do that. He’d left his armor behind in the den, it was too bulky and hard to maneuver in, if he was going to try his paw at hunting then he was going to need to be able to move as best he could. Stopping at the edge of the field, he took a moment to stretch, it was while he was doing this that he spotted movement in the center of the field. He paused, mid stretch and watched a funny looking feline pouncing on something in the grass. Ears came forward and a devious grin pulled his lips up. Hunting abandoned, he shifted out of his stretching pose and crouched low, slinking forward with his head barely above the tall grass so that he could see.

A wise hunter would have remained hidden and would have moved with softer paws, Sandor was still young, he didn’t yet understand this and thus the grass parted as he moved forward with haste. The distance between he and the feline was devoured too quickly, alerting the predator to his presence and giving it ample time to stand over its meal- but not run away. Sandor didn’t realize just how close he was until the grass in front of him parted and within a couple feet was the feline. It hissed, swiping a paw at the air as it rumbled a warning. Sandor lifted his lips in a childish snarl, a low rumble bubbling in his throat as his fur bristled making his gangly form appear bigger than it actually was.

A wise wolf would have circled the feline, but Sandor was young and foolish, filled with an arrogant sense of superiority he did not circle the predator to find a weakness. He brazenly charged head on at the feline, hoping to knock it over and end this fight quickly, but of course, that was not how it would happen. The feline abandoned its meal in favor of getting out of his way, swiping a clawed paw at him as he charged by. The feeling of claws dragging against his flank caused a searing pain that made the older pup yelp and wheel around, tripping as he did. He hit the ground hard, rolling as the feline charged at him with an angry snarl.

Sandor panicked, kicking out with all four feet at the feline as it tried to position itself on top of him. One hind paw connected with the chest, a front paw glanced off the face just enough to push it back for a moment. He flailed, rolling to his feet and immediately charged the feline again; it leapt up a bit, allowing it to wrap both front paws around his shoulders, its teeth trying to bite at his face. Fortunately for Sandor, his head had been down and teeth sank into the top of his skull, not his face. It was painful, another yelp pulled from his jaws as snapped his teeth onto the felines leg, right where it connected with the chest. Claws dug into each of his shoulders, more blood stained his fur as it came to the surface and ran down to the ground. He could feel hot liquid on his skull; it ran down slowly, causing an itch.

Sandor snarled his best puppy snarl as he shook his head and shoved his weight forward, knocking the feline off balance and sending it to the ground. The jarring motion caused the feline to release his head momentarily, giving Sandor enough time to grab release the hold he had on the leg and move it to the neck. The claws that had dug into his shoulders released, only to be higher up on his neck by his ears. He yelped again but only tightened his grip as a strangled yowl came from the feline. Its hind claws came up in a desperate attempt, kicking at his chest. Not knowing what else to do Sandor let all of his weight fall on the cat, pinning its hind legs against his upper chest. Breathing hard, he held on to the feline long after it stopped breathing. Huffing and puffing he laid there on top of it, hesitantly he slowly relaxed his jaws. The feline didn’t move and he shakily got to his feet. Trembling the pup stood over his prize, looking it over. If the pelt wasn’t any good…at least the meat would be. Now he just had to find the energy to drag it back. For the moment, he was going to rest. Sandor took a step away from the feline and lay back down sorely, licking the wounds on his left shoulder.

he smelt the blood before he saw the boy.

apparently, little Siobhan had made a name for herself, recruiting a friend into the pack. he had been looking for the boy to give him a proper check-up before allowing him anywhere near his packmates. he could have a disease. he could have the sniffles. either way, he wanted to check every new arrival in the pack. whatever. it was the healer in him. his den was farther away than this, so it was a trek following the boy's scent. only when he saw the boy collapsed on the ground did he rush forward. he also saw the body of the feline.

it was rather impressive the kid killed it but that was beside the point. "keep licking it" he instructed bluntly as he neared. the wounds on the shoulder would be able to be fixed rather easily aside from some discomfort. but he wasn't sure where else he was wounded. there was a wound on his head too that he'd check first. Holland wished he thought to bring herbs with him but luckily the valley was chalked full of them. "where does it hurt... the most?" he added as he began to gather at least some moss from the nearby logs.

Perhaps fighting the cat had been a bad idea. The pride he felt for killing the beast did not wane, however, his adrenaline did. As it faded the light sting from his wounds began to amplify into painful throbs. Sandor groaned quietly as he licked his shoulder, closing his eyes as he tried to push the pain away. With eyes closed he didn't see Holland approach, the sudden, blunt voice startled him causing Sandor to lurch painfully to his feet as eyes snapped open. Sandor eyed the male warily, forgetting momentarily to check for a pack scent, when he finally used his nose the boy relaxed a bit and lay back down slowly. Where did it hurt most? "My head...and back leg." He finally answered after a long pause to concentrate on the pain to figure out what exactly hurt most when it seemed all of his nerves were firing signals of pain to his brain. His shoulders stung, but his head and back leg throbbed painfully.

he gave a soft 'hmm', trying to remember what herbs grew around the Valley this time of year. marigold was good for applying to cuts and burns, which could also slow the throbbing the boy felt with his wounds. he twisted away from the other to search for it. the vibrant orange flower was easy to spot; it was only a few paces away. he went to it, digging around it expertly to pull one small plant out of the ground before returning. he'd have to use at least three of them to heal the boy. despite his smaller size, the wounds were a bit great.

and the plant was almost withered due to the cold. Holland would remark this silently, scrunching up his eyes to inspect the rest of the flowers before going to Sandor's side. "relax. I'm one of Lirim's healers" he told him upon arrival, dropping the marigold and beginning to work. he launched into chewing the flower up before spreading it on the boy's head first. topically worked best instead of grinding it up with a rock. he covered the head wounds delicately and carefully, mindful of the pain it was causing his patient.

"1/3 healing sandor
1/3 collecting marigold"

There was something calming about the other wolf’s presence; it put him at ease despite the throbbing that pulsed throughout his body. For a moment, Sandor wondered if the cat was really worth this agony…one glance at the feral cat was all he need. It was definitely worth it. A proud smile pulled at his lips momentarily, before fading to a frown as he watched the wolf grab some yellow flowers, announcing that he was a Lirim healer. Sandor eyed the wolf warily, “what do they do?” He asked as the wolf began to apply them to his wounds. Sandor did his best to hold still, only flinching a couple times when the healer hit a particularly tender spot. “I want to be a healer some day.” He said, trying to take his mind off the pain as well as to give a reason for the other wolf to share his knowledge. Sandor had been injured before, though not as badly, a few good licks and some moss usually did the trick…or if that was unavailable spider webs.

once he was done with one small shriveled marigold plant, he went to collect another. hearing the boy's question, he didn't answer at first. he was too focused on digging up the plant before turning back to him. dropping the marigold gently on the ground, he resisted a sigh. so this one wanted to be a healer, eh? he wondered if he'd have to teach him one day. "this is marigold" he tended to speak faster and clearer when he was interested in a subject. he gestured to the plant idly. "it heals cuts and bruises."

now sit still he bit back his irritation. why did all the wolves in this world want to know what he was doing when he was trying to help them? he supposed the boy had a more valid reason than others, but still. settling back next to the pup, Holland grounded up the rest of the marigold plant and applied it to the other wounds. the back leg could still wait. he was still concerned about the head. Holland could do nothing about that though; the boy needed to wait and heal before the man could assess any lasting damage.

"2/3 healing sandor
1/3 taught a lesson (marigold)
2/3 collecting marigold"

The boy watched as Holland went to collect more flowers, waiting patiently for a response. When it came he nodded slightly, it wasn’t just a flower it was marigold and it healed cuts and bruises. His brow rose questioningly at that. Who would use it for bruising? “Why not just use water to flush and sap to glue together.” He asked, remembering how his father had ‘stitched’ up a wound when he was sick. As Holland came back to put more of the Marigold in his wounds, Sandor tried to sit still, muscles twitching at the pain. “ Do you like healing?” He asked, trying to take his mind off the sting.
