Eligos' physical recovery was proceeding, though perhaps slowed by his psychological damage, but that very psychological damage just seemed to be deepening rather than healing. He found himself sinking more easily into despair, bleakness, or bouncing around into seething anger or brooding. He was brooding now, moving along the border in a patrol in a head-down, bristling gait more like a skulking scavenger than a noble wolf. Finishing his patrol he turned to return to his den in the ravine, but when he went to pass his cousin Proserpina's den he paused. He had been distracted for some time, but his sensitive nose did not miss the milk-sweet scent of relatively young pups. It threw him into confusion - Ina had whelped? And had said nothing to him about even being pregnant, let alone having birthed them? He moved closer, his jaw firming with the first stirrings of anger, suppressed. "Proserpina," he called out to her with a firm tone. He didn't like the idea that his people would hide things from him, particularly not something as important as new pups. Was she hiding them?
