AU Steampunk Victorian England

50 years ago it happened, this time worse than it had in the past. The Black Plague, a deadly disease that attacked humans and rats. Despite the drastic decrease in the rat population during the plague they were blamed by the humans and sentenced to death. When the ashes cleared from ovens where they had taken so many rats only a small number yet remained. They survived, hidden away in the darkest corners of the city, slowly, changing. Now 50 years later the rats have returned in strength, changed forever by the virus that had damned them as evil beings. These rats are smarter than before, can live longer than before, and are trying to change with the world around them. The industrial revolution is gearing up, holding strong. Though changed the rats still face the same challenges, cats, dogs, hawks, and humans. No more than ever they must fight to survive, escape the rat catchers, survive the death pits, and build a community. Yet can they come together long enough to make this possible?

In a world where man is changing their reality the rats have decided to shape their own world. Some families wish to continue living as their ancestors once did while others wish to advance like the humans and carve a new rat world. From the Icarus family came the first rat city Great Sanctuary and from the Cricket family came the first rat printing press. Still others plot to start a war against the humans such as the Marcus family. Where greed and regret have become new friends to a young race there is endless possibility. Where do you fit in? What role will you play in the rat revolution? Stick to your roots or evolve, unite or divide? This is the last stand for survival, the last hope for their species, the rats of London.
