and they all fall down

She moved like a ghost across the land, a small ball of fluff that was trying so hard to retreat into the shell of herself. It had been a couple of days now since she had last run into someone kind enough to share their meal with her and already she was beginning to wilt and fade away. She moved with little to no grace, her body in an awkward transition between pup and weanling. Though the fur on her legs had become more sleek with age her torso still had dense, thick puppy fur was still evident in some places. She had never really had a mother to groom her and get it off. It was worst on the back of her neck and shoulders where she couldn't groom herself. She looked similar to a molting bird at this particular point in time, trying to get rid of her baby fluff but there was still some adult guard hairs poking through. It was apparent to most who say her that she would be quite sleek looking when she grew up if she ever grew into the massive ears atop her head and those giant eyes that seemed to swallow up her whole face. All in all, most say the same thing when they caught a glimpse of Kadence, a broken, fragile young thing that had so much potential. Potential she never seemed to be able to see in herself, compliments often fell on deaf ears when spoken to the youngster.
Downcast eyes followed the ground as she moved through the trees towards the sound of water. It was really the only thing she could get for herself anymore. She had hunted mice and shrews for a bit but she seemed to expend more energy catching them then she gained from eating them. Her hunting skills were seriously lacking with no one to teach her even the basics to help her survive. She realized that soon she would need to ask for help beyond sharing a meal but she had yet to trust anyone enough to want to. She had sat for a while with one female, Chaya, and they had spoken lightly of Kadence's past but nothing in depth. The female had been going on 9 years old though and was fading faster then Kadence was. She would have liked to stay with that old white wolf but she decided that she could watch yet another loved one die before her so after an hour of talking they parted ways with heavy hearts. Almost 3 days of straight walking later the frail young pup found herself slowly approaching a river in a land that she didn't know. But that had been her life for the past 2 months, simply traveling on her own...
Tiny paws came to rest at the edge of the river and slowly her huge eyes turned upwards and turned downstream. As always the beauty was so stunning it almost took her breath away and for a long moment she stared at the scene painted before her in wonder. But the thirst took over and she slowly bent her head to lap up the life giving liquid. Her stomach was past the point of rumbling and now seemed to twist and contort within her violently, demanding sustenance of some sort. She was almost ready to eat bark soon if she couldn't find a carcass to scavenge or another kind soul to share their meal. But for now her stomach seemed to sweet a bit as the cool liquid filled it. After a few long minutes of drinking until she could hear her belly slosh she finally allowed the front half of her body to slid to the ground, paws draped over the edge of the river bank so toes dipped into the rushing waters below. She rested her delicate skull atop her paws and closed her eyes for a moment, letting her mind drift and be at ease for a short time. She couldn't sleep out in the open like this, she had learned that much quite quickly, but she allowed herself to rest and her senses to roam.

The black brute had wandered away yet again; he should really stay close to home now but went where his paws took him. Yet this time Thane was not alone, he was accompanied by his beloved Ookami on this trip. There had been so many trips he had made alone and on this one...it seemed better with her here.
As the wolf walked at a calm pace he perked up his white lined ears to listen for any prey nearby. Of course after this the wolf would hunt; as Lead Hunter he now saw it not as a hobby but as his duty to help feed the pack. Hunting had always been a hobby for the wolf, even though if his companion would sometimes help him out when in need.
Speaking of his companion, an eagle's cry rang throughout the forest as he neared the sound of water. A smile was portrayed on the brute's muzzle as he looked up to the sky for the brilliant bird. Suddenly a golden eagle came into view and perched on Thane's shoulder.
"Master Thane, may I ask where we are?"
"We are at the Rio Grande approaching the river. Are you able to fly ahead and scout out anything ahead of us at the river?" he said as his aqua blue gaze averted back to Ookami.
With a flick oh his tail the bird set his golden eyes on the sky as it spread it's wings.
"Don't take too long Cyril..."
The bird nodded before taking off and disappearing into the trees ahead.
Thane then looked up as Cyril suddenly flew back faster than he had expected. The bird did not say a word; they would have to find out for themselves as to what lay ahead. The brute couldn't really smell anything except for Ookami at the moment; the scent of her heat wafted off of her like blooming flowers. A small smile was portrayed on the male's face. This was a good day indeed.

The quite strides of her foot steps resided right next to thane's own foot step. The summer day was wonderful and she enjoys the feel, and smell that the spring did bring with it. Her green eyes sparked as she scanned the land, the Rio Grande would be coming up on them fairly shortly, and she could smell the fresh water. A light breeze flew through her thick black fur, in the winter her fur was a blessing, but in the summer she rather be bald than have all this hair. Her eyes glanced up at the sky to see Cyril flying over them.
Ookami smiled at Thane as he walked next to her, she was glad that she had found him, well more like he had found her. Who had found who did not matter at this point, all that mattered was that they were together, and she was happy for that. The wind blew once more, and with this it carried a scent, the scent of another wolf. This was not any wolf, this was a pup, around the year mark. Where was her mother, was she lost? The thoughts ran through her head as she turned to thane. The look in her eyes said did you smell that.
Ookami nuzzled Thane "Come on Thane" She said as she took off running. the pup was not that much farther than where they were. Ookami was in a full out sprint, she was in season, and wanted nothing but a pup to nourish and protect. A few minutes had passed until the sight of the pup came to her vision. Ookami came to a slow walk as she approached the pup. "Hello there." She said in a sweet calm voice. "Where is you mother, are you alone." She spoke as she was about a foot from the pup.
Ookami looked at the pup and smiled some more."My name is Ookami, and who may you be my dear." She said as her tail swayed with great joy. Somewhere inside of her she wanted this pup to be an orphan, so she can adopt her, but she did not want to wish such a thing upon anyone. Expectantly a pup who had just begun to grow in this harsh world.
