((M for Gore and potentially triggering imagry. Also P for Mercury [Kat’s Merc] and liquid timing to just after the maim.))

Run, breath, run. Blood pounded loud in her ears and somewhere in the back of the girl’s mind she knew she was like to bleed out if this kept up. Still paws pounded against the ground and she pushed herself onwards. The hot sticky liquid running down her face could only be blood but Canta forced herself not to think of it. Still her mind suddenly flashed with images of fangs right in front of her eye and gaping down at the small round object that had once been hers. It looked so fragile, the faint glint of it’s surface almost too blinding. The tether still attached to the back of it made her want to throw up.

Canta’s stomach flipped and the girl stopped her mad dash to heave uselessly for a few moments. No doubt her stomach was empty now, it’s contents now spilled upon the battle field. Then catching her breath she pushed herself onwards. She had to get away, needed to flee from the monster of a woman, needed to tell them what had happened.

The world blurred on by, a buzzing sound growing louder though if it was in her ears or her head she couldn’t tell. Nearly there, nearly- Then it happened. The world suddenly slipped out of focus and she stopped. A dizzy feeling had her in its grip and she mentally screamed at herself. No! The world was slipping fast, legs shaking and she let loose a weak call for the first wolf that crossed her mind. Canta was vaguely aware of her body hitting the ground, then nothingness.

He'd been away from Sawtooth for much longer than he wished to admit. So long that he was unaware of its existence. He didn't know that the packs had split off, let alone how the challenge had gone. He was on his way back, burly form making its way easily through the snow and its drifts. He was eager to check up on his parents and meet this new little brother of his. He also found himself eager to see Canta again.

They hadn't really pressed through into a relationship but he knew that he cared for the young Destruction girl. She had such pretty eyes, almost like his mothers, and the whole time he was away he could not get the image of them from his mind. He had learned quite a lot during his time away from the family, but the impending homecoming would excite him and put a spring in his tired step. Home never sounded so good. It was a shame he'd never make it back there.

Canta's presence to him would not be alerted by her call, instead the scent of blood would first make him aware of someone's pain. Then simultaneously he'd catch Canta's distinct scent and her pained call. Fear and worry would take hold of his heart as he sprang into action, dark black fur contrasting against the snow he would bound to her side, wasting no time in getting to her. Though what he found was a sad crumpled and bleeding mess. "Canta! Canta, Canta, Canta..." He'd repeat until his voice was a whisper, his nose was against her cheek, he'd pray that she was only injured, she could't die right here in front of him.

speech

Red.

Red hot pain, and she couldn’t tell it if was Jupiter’s breath upon her face or the blood pouring into her eye that made that side of her face feel too warn, too wet. She wanted to pull back to get the woman to release her, but there was no escape not this time. A part of her wondered where her mother was, why couldn’t she hear her? The scared tiny pup inside her was whimpering, she wanted Song to come and rescue her, to take her away from the big scary woman that wanted to hurt her.

Ripping and tearing echoed inside her head as she felt fangs ripping her eye from her face.

Black and red.

The world was wrong, it was not sharp enough and as she gazed around in panic she couldn’t find her. If her mother was there the snowy woman wasn’t making it obvious. She expected to hear her mother’s comforting coo, to feel the woman come to embrace her. That was what she was supposed to do!

Black but no white.

A part of Canta was embracing this, relishing in the blackness. She wanted it, wanted to let it swallow her up. She was ready, she had experienced entirely too much pain for her young age and this way at least it’d be over, she’d never suffer enough.

No! Screamed a voice in the back of her mind but it was drowned out in the crashing of relief. She was tired, didn’t she deserve this rest?

Gods damn it! Fight! The girl rebelled against the voice, it screamed louder this time and she fought to push it down.

You are stronger than this! GET UP! Lids flew open with a soft gasp and for a brief moment the world was quiet, peaceful. Then it all rushed in on her, the pain in her limbs and face. The cold of the snow pushed into her body and a whispering… her name?

Her tongue was dry as she spoke his name. “Mercury?” One forest green orb shifted to look at him as she rasped his name. But… but he was gone, he had left, left her!

She was so still, he would almost convince himself that she was really gone from him. He would press himself against her form, nuzzling her softly as he felt tears well up in his eyes. He should have never gone off in the first place, especially without asking the girl to come with him. Though really he'd needed the journey alone, being away from her so long had been the mistake.

Then she would gasp, suddenly with him once more. He would scoot away, giving her enough space to breath as she whispered his name. He'd watch as her eye shifted towards him, the relief he felt would be incredible. "Canta." He couldn't help but nuzzle her again, "you're hurt." the obvious was all he'd manage to release from dark jaws.

speech

He skittered away at her vocalization though not far. His violet gaze roved over her and she flinched her head away, lid sliding closed over her now empty socket. She didn’t want him to see, didn’t want him to know. His nose pushed into her fur and she lay there, closing her good eye and breathing deepily. Everything felt wrong, he had been gone… Hadn’t she made a point of anger towards those that had left her? She had accepted her father back only once, and her missing sisters had never really reclaimed a place in her life. Still everything was just too much, the last thing she could muster right now was anger towards the gold marked boy. “You don’t say?” There wasn’t so much a hint of sarcasm as there was an entire layer of it.

Even if he hadn't seen the hole where her bright green eye once was he wouldn't have noticed it's significance through the blood that covered her face. The sarcasm on her voice wasn't lost on him, and the emotion it would evoke was relief. She wasn't so hurt that he had to worry about her death. So long as the bleeding stopped.. Oh now of all times he wished that Faolan was with him. He had been rather accomplished as a healer last he'd checked. He hadn't checked back in a long time though. "Oh, Canta." He'd whisper almost silently into her fur as he pushed against her, "Should get you to our sisters." He knew Novel and Ara were rather accomplished healers, but he knew not of Novel's sons or their newly blossoming relationship. Nor did he realize they no longer had a home to go back to.

.ooc. should wrap this up and make a more current thread
