Lark had come to the rapids once again, despite his parents' warnings to be careful around them. There was just something about the crashing waves and the ceaseless flowing of the river that enraptured him and made him want to spend more time around them. Today was no exception. The wild crashing of the waves was a welcome refreshment from the hot summer sun and he could feel the spray of the water on his face as he paced closely alongside the rapids, panting quietly.

His green gaze would scope out the rocks that created a path from one side of the rapids to the other. Dangerous, yes, and probably quite stupid... and yet he couldn't help but feel tempted by the threat of danger and the possibility of doing something that others were afraid to try. The boy's tail twitched restlessly behind him as he continued to pace along the edge of the rapids, sniffing at the air and judging how much success he might have if he dared try to cross.

Sometimes he wondered if he honestly did have a fear of the rapids. It would have been best if his brother hadn't told him so much about the territory, despite the fact being tiny in its relevance. "This is where dad died." Those were the only words he could remember from their conversation, and he found himself always furiously shaking his head to rid his thoughts of the dark substance that consumed them. Ever since he had been told, visiting the rapids had become almost a customary part of his routine. There was no purpose behind why he did so, perhaps it was just out of respect.

His emerald gaze cast itself across the surging water while his undeveloped mind busily attempted to figure out how a harmless liquid that was a necessity for life could also swallow one's life just as effortlessly. Why did nature have to be so confusing and complicated? If it wasn't for his fear of water, perhaps his mischievous ego would love to take a daring move and hop across the rocky steps that jutted out from the rapids. Was it silly for him to fear water?
The whole time his mind was stuck in a thick daze, he never realised the other soul beside him. How long had the other pup been sitting there? Had he seen Tinaro? Judging by the trance-like state he had just been through, the other pup probably thought of him as weird. What a great way to get started with strangers.
"Oh! I didn't see you there." The older chestnut boy exclaimed in wide surprise as his cranium turned to observe the larger caramel pup. Was it the intimidating size that lessened his confidence? Perhaps it was because he had never spoken to anyone other than family.

Lark had never had the misfortune of knowing what it felt like to truly, inexplicably be afraid. The closest he'd come to being afraid was when his father had returned, visibly injured and distressed, but even then he'd felt more angry and dismayed than anything else. Only in that one moment had he felt so confused; it'd felt like nothing had been in control, and that he couldn't do anything to stop his father's pain no matter how hard he tried. That was the only sort of fear he'd experienced.

He certainly didn't feel that way as he watched the rapids. The clear water cascaded without hesitation over the rocks that sprouted to and fro in the rapids, pushing forward with no sign of stopping. He'd been so engrossed in the simple display of nature that he almost didn't notice that he'd wandered quite close to another boy. Though he was visibly older, he was smaller and Lark found himself frowning unconsciously as he eyed him. "I didn't see you either," he replied flippantly as he began to inspect the boy at his side. He smelled strongly of Abaven, though he couldn't place who he was. Hopefully not another family member that had finally decided to show up...

"Who are you?" came his sudden question, markedly brash and a bit forceful in tone. It was more of a demand, phrased as a question, but he would stare curiously with his placid features as he waited for the answer he expected to come quickly.

It was reassuring to know his own presence hadn't been noticed, although he wasn't too quick to believe it. What engaging activity had the other pup been participating in that he had taken no notice of Tinaro? Had he too been thinking about forgotten family? For a short moment he eyed the other pup with faint suspicion before losing interest in the matter and deciding to listen to what was an assertive question. In fact, he was quite adjusted to his brother's irrational and snarky behaviour that he couldn't notice that the boy's query was somewhat of a demand. He was oblivious to this tone, responding in the same way if the question was spoken in a politer manner. "Tinaro." he provided his name confidently in a content chirp. Unlike the other pup, he was certain this was no long lost family member as he wasn't a part of a well known family. He was sure to believe this was an unrelated stranger around the same age as him who he had happened to cross paths with. Currently, the situation was being processed positively, which was why he returned the inquiry.
"Who are you?" he mimicked the earlier question as he tipped his skull to one side. Of course, his tone was light and calm. Hopefully, the nameless pup wouldn't approach his question as an irritating game of repeating. Although there are many ways he could have rephrased that question, to be honest he couldn't be bothered. It wasn't the most friendliest of ways to commence an acquaintanceship, if that was where the conversation planned on heading.

Lark didn't have much experience in not getting his way. He hadn't necessarily been spoiled persay, but he certainly hadn't had the misfortune a living a hard life. If the boy hadn't given his name quite quickly he would've probably grown agitated quite quickly, but his gaze softened slightly when Tinaro introduced himself. He was pleased with the answer he got, though he still knew nothing about him beyond his name. It struck him suddenly that perhaps it was stupid to ask someone's name first... because it usually told you nothing at all.  "I'm Lark Destruction," he offered at the other boy's question. At the very least, he would know that he was important here, if nothing else.

"Do you have parents here?" It would be surprising if a random kid was hanging out in Abaven without their parents, and without being related to him. Feeling a bit more friendly than usual, especially at the other boy's compliance with his question, he moved to sit near him by the edge of the rapids.

Now, Tinaro wasn't aware of the large family inhabiting the continent, simply put as the Destruction family, especially since quite a few of them resided in the pack. He had introduced himself to some of these wolves, but had never been told they were of supposed high importance or were all related to each other. When the other boy provided his surname, it was the first time such a word had travelled to his ears. "Destruction? He echoed yet again, allowing the word to explore the depths of his thoughts after repeating it continuously in his mind. "I've never heard that name before, but it sounds cool and serious." His tail gave a delighted wag. Tinaro Destruction didn't seem half bad for a title...

As much as he was trying to avoid the following subject, it was still brought to their conversation. Did he have parents with him? Of course he had parents, everyone did. They just weren't with him, yeah, that was it. Currently, they resided in his head but nevertheless, it wasn't the same compared to his memories. "Well, I did." He managed to mumble loud enough for the younger pup to hear. To be honest, he didn't want Lark to sympathise over the pitiful fact that had grown up without parents. Although it was unfortunate and a little gripping at times, he didn't want to look weak in front of those his own age. Death was indeed a dark subject, especially to a child's mind who never fully understood it.

He didn't really know how his conversation with Tinaro would turn out, but it was the mystery that intrigued him. Who he was, where he'd come from, why he was in Abaven -- he didn't know any of these things. His brows furrowed at Tinaro's response to his name, slight confusion washing over him. He'd never heard of the name Destruction? How was that even possible? Still, he was pleased at the compliment about it. Destruction was a cool and serious name, he'd got that much right. "My dad's the Azat," he explained matter-of-factly. "It's our family name." There was in unmistakable hint of pride in the boy's voice at his explanation.

The mood seemed to shift to something more serious as he questioned Tinaro, though he hadn't meant to upset him. "Oh." If he didn't want to talk about it, they probably shouldn't.. and yet he was curious. "Did they just leave you here or something?" Lark couldn't imagine how hurt and confused he would be if his father and mother had simply left him in a strange pack. It was difficult to imagine living amongst strangers, without parents, and he felt strangley empathetic for Tinaro though he would never care to admit it.
