Quest in the Fog

Kia was somewhere new today – again. She never stayed in one place too long. She grew bored far too quickly for that. Today she found herself in some kind of swampland. She could sense the danger of being in a place like this, as the area was shrouded in fog, and the humidity made it difficult to smell anything properly. Any number of dangerous creatures could attack her and she wouldn’t know about it ‘til the last second. She grinned. This was her kind of place. This was the type of challenge she lived for. She took her first step into the bog, determined to explore as much as she could before nightfall, even if it got her killed. For what was life without a little adventure?

Kia trudged through the mud with the determination of a train whose brakes had been torn out. Though, because of the muck, she couldn’t move all that quickly. Still, this was a challenge, and she took it in stride. What was she looking for? Nothing in particular. Boredom had brought her here, and now that she was here, she was determined to not be bored anymore. As she waded through the swamp, a shape slowly showed itself before her, until she was suddenly standing face-to-face with another of her kind. This female was quite pretty – one eye gold and one purple. In fact, her entire body seemed to be covered in… well… brown, at the moment, though the top of her head and back was a beautiful shade of blue-black-purple.
“Me?” she asked. “Pretty? Really?” Her face lit up, eyes and mouth smiling. “Noooo. You are pretty. Your fur is gorgeous.” Honestly, Kia wasn’t used to compliments. She really didn’t know how to take them, which was odd for a wolf who thought of everything as a challenge. You’d think she would be snobbish about it, but no. In fact, she was really quite shy now, and had no idea what to say, so she just… looked down at the water awkwardly. Still, even this awkwardness was another challenge to face, and she was determined to overcome it.

Kia listened with a smile as the female asked her again what she was doing out here in the middle of a swamp. She laughed when it was suggested that she was lost. “What do you mean this doesn’t seem like the best place to take a pleasure jaunt? Where’s your sense of adventure?” She eyed the wolf as she picked up her paw, shook it off, and then put it back in the mud, grinning a bit in amusement. “I don’t think that helped much.” She looked around, wondering where to head to next. “You think I’ll find anything interesting out here?” she asked in a conspiratorial whisper, eyes sparkling to try and convey that she was joking.
